I thought the book had some good ideas on how to handle difficult areas of life when you tend to have anxiety about them or are avoidant of them. There were some helpful tips on how to get out of your own way that I never thought of before by just looking at the situation differently so that you're setting yourself up for success ahead of time. It touched on procrastination, self care, relationships, work, finances, and how to develop better habits. I didn't really like the narrator's manner of speaking with lots of fluction in her voice after every sentence. It made it hard to focus because it felt more like a textbook than something I would read for pleasure. Definitely would recommend if you're struggling to get out of a "rut" because your own behaviors are getting in the way.

I don't know what made me want to sleep more - the reader's boring, monotone voice, or the book's fluff that the writer tried to pass off as an intelligent and thought-provoking read. It's clear this book was written for the author and not for the reader. It did not do a sufficient job at bridging the difference between an empath and an introvert or highly sensitive person. Ideas were presented as fact without enough evidence to support it. Many of the truths she spoke about were her own experiences or those of her clients. If you want proof that this was written for the author, just count how many times she quotes herself IN HER OWN BOOK! The first and last chapters were not summaries but rather just copy and paste of other points in the book. I walked away with maybe one or two things that I found interesting, but the overall book left a lot to be desired.

Mel is absolutely great! She narrates the book in a way that is easy to listen to and feels like you're listening to your best friend or coach. The 5 second rule really shakes up the way you think about courage and doing what needs to be done in your life and work. The only "con" I have is that the first couple chapters or so had a lot of "fluff" with talking too much about the people who have changed their lives around because of the 5 second rule...I just wish she would have gotten to the point a little quicker. I definitely encourage anyone to listen to this book if you need help getting motivated or finding everyday courage!
