Historia
The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age.

Want to Actually Get Through the Silmarillion?
Revisado: 12-27-23
but srsly I started and stopped reading the Silmarillion dozens of times over the last 2 decades and could not get myself to actually finish it, until this audio recording.
also if we could get Andy Sirkis to voice everything that'd be great 👀

Historia
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: Humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life - and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control. Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe - a role that neither wants. These teens must master the "art" of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Unreasonable killing of children
Revisado: 06-14-22
I couldn't get past the first 2 chapters. For a society that claims to have finished evolving and learning, I find it hard to accept they would allow the killing of children. Undying humans and the need to control the population sounded interesting, even the choosing of random people to die. But why does that randomness have to include children? It implies the scythes actually have a choice and can even protect certain individuals, they are human not robots. Not that difficult to include a humane rule of only randomly select from the adult population. Even better let everyone live at least one average life span before adding them to the list. The unreasonableness broke immersion for me, I don't want to read about teenagers being murdered because statistics say they would have in past historic times. They don't even give the victims time to say their goodbyes to family. Would be like living with serial killers on the loose and sanctioned by the government, I wanted a fantasy novel not a horror story.

Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Really?!
Revisado: 07-17-18
I'm sorry, I read a bunch of fantasy, and I'll push through some pretty terrible stuff, but I'm 5 hours in and I can't pick it back up. Every- and I do mean every- time there's a description of something I out loud say "really?!" (much to the consternation of my coworkers) because "messy tumble of ebony locks" describes a beautiful person, not a hardened enigmatic person the main character should fear. "eyes as yellow as the fields of wheat they resembled" like come on. I couldn't get past the 'clever' prose to enjoy the story (which wasn't off to a great start anyway).
