Historia
Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae. The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned. When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment. Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

Bad male narrator and a boring story
Revisado: 01-07-25
I love Romantasy but this book was terrible. No interest in the main character and there wasn’t any chemistry. The male narrator was awful - terribly overacted. I liked the female narrator though, but that didn’t counteract the other issues unfortunately. The story was just terribly boring and I had no interest in the central couple getting together.

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Crazy slow narration, very long story
Revisado: 03-21-24
I listened at 1.2 speed and it was still slow at moments - I couldn’t believe how slow it was! Though I do like this narrator anyway. The story was bizarrely long - I liked the story in the end but it couldn’t easily been half the time.

Full of promise
Revisado: 01-09-16
I love this narrator -- he hooked me immediately. The book is also told from the man's perspective, which was a nice change from what romance novels typically offer. Ultimately, however, the characters were just too cliche for me... The slutty-dressing best friend, the loser boyfriend the lead is inexplicably in love with... Some of those roles are just a bit tired.
But I still enjoyed it.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Funny but not all that sexy
Revisado: 04-16-13
Molly Harper is without question a talented comedic writer and I laughed out loud more than a few times when I listended to this one. Gabriel was the character I had the most issues with - - I just wanted the character to be more developed and I wanted to WANT them to be together. I didn't really care if they were together and I didn't even think Gabriel was particularly sexy. I don't even remember a great description of what he looked like.
While I did like the Jane Jameson character that the narrator created, I just didn't think she did anything for me in terms of the other characters. Her male characters all sound exactly the same, which also sounds like Jane Jameson's "angry" voice.

Historia
When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Bit of a slow start, but then EXPLOSIVE!
Revisado: 12-02-12
I feel similarly about Stephen King - - craploads of build up only to get to the set-up that I already knew would come, based simply on reading the back of the book! It took 3 hours of listening before Ledger actually agrees to join the DMS... that bugged me. But once this story took off (Room 12...) it was spectacular. Non-stop party. LOVED IT!
And this narrator is unbelievable. Best I've ever heard.

Fun and Sexy
Revisado: 11-26-12
I really love this narrator -- she really made the book for me. The book checked the boxes that I look to check when I'm reading/listening to a romance novel: I liked the female lead and found her both intelligent and believable; the world the author created is both intriguing and adheres to a reasonable set of rules; the romance is sexy and I wait for it impatiently!
I still give this book full marks, but I have to say -- a band of Prius-driving immortal guardians of mankind who consume, exclusively, organic produce and chicken? Come on! I'm down with this sort of doctrine in real life but to have these two lead characters connect over a delicious organic goat cheese pizza? I don't know, it just isn't very manly I guess. A bit silly. It's a relatively minimally present theme in the story so I'm not THAT bothered by it.

A little goofy
Revisado: 11-25-12
What did you like best about Atlantis Rising? What did you like least?
I liked the hotness of the man-crew that is the warriors of Poseidon, but the dialogue and writing just isn't natural. I'm happy to suspend my beliefs for fantasy romance, but this guy's voices are so silly. Between that and the crappy dialogue, it just isn't believable. It isn't the worst I've had, but it wasn't for me. I won't be reading the next.
How could the performance have been better?
Better voices especially for Conlin and all the bad guys. So goofy.
Was Atlantis Rising worth the listening time?
Kinda.

Horrible narrator, so-so story, horrible heroine
Revisado: 08-24-10
Marguerite Jennings actually embarassed me, she was such a bad narrator. Her voice for Claire was absolutely idiotic - - the character Claire was poorly written to begin with, but the narrator made her even more of an idiot than she already was. She was helpless and stupid, frankly. The hero was sexy and super enjoyable to read about, but Claire wasn't nearly likeable enough to believe that Malcolm would fall for her.
The story was pretty easy to follow and I definitely was interested in what would happen next, but Claire was distractingly dumb, without a doubt.
