Flawed, but enjoyable

The story loses steam the longer it goes on. I grew increasingly annoyed by the repetitive explanation of one of the book's conciets. King even acknowledges it, but then keeps doing it. There were too many references to pop culture. Ready Player One would be proud.
This is not to say the book is bad. The lore of the world presented is interesting. The pre-Empis parts of the book are actually the best parts. All in all, it's a good book, a few complaints aside.
The audio performance is solid, if not particularly remarkable.

I love these books, and they are represented reasonably well here. However, some idiot decided to mark the scene breaks with loud, ear-shattering noise. Be wary listening to this with ear buds.

If you could sum up Voyage of the Mourning Dawn in three words, what would they be?
Never underestimate character.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narration of this story is bizarre. It's not really the fault of Mrs Sciotto. She does some quality reading, but, as anyone would, she makes a few mistakes. The strange thing is these mistakes were not corrected. She says "increduly" instead of incredulously, close when she meant clothes, and even called the heroine Serena instead of Sarin. The parts that were edited were done very poorly, with bits from a clearly different recording spliced in.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is a very enjoyable story. It's characters are its most appealing feature. They're a colorful, interesting bunch.
