Historia
Being on the murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she's there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she's getting close to the breaking point. Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers' quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner.

I loved this book!
Revisado: 10-21-16
I didn't think that I would ever enjoy a Tana French book more than I enjoyed Faithful Place but this did it. And Hilda Fay is one of the best narrators I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. So. Good.
Highly recommend!

Excellence
Revisado: 10-04-16
What I thought was a great ride in a really good story turn into one of those mind blowing adventures you completely didn't expect to be on and are so grateful you happened to become swept up in. I loved this book! It was my first by this author and I am so excited to see there are more for me to devour. The narrator deserves a mention as well, as she was excellent. Definitely recommend and hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside vacation town when her investigation leads her to interview carnival cleaner Amber Gordon. It really was a well written story
Revisado: 08-30-15
It was really just sad. There seemed to be no redemption and no real meaning. Just a long sad reminder of the brutality and fragility of human nature, the cruelty of judgement and our unwillingness to accept the entirety of facts in favor of a story that makes us feel like we are the good and they are the bad. I loved the characters. It was just sad.

Historia
Leonora, known to some as Lee and others as Nora, is a reclusive crime writer, unwilling to leave her nest of an apartment unless it is absolutely necessary. When a friend she hasn't seen or spoken to in years unexpectedly invites Nora ( Lee) to a weekend away in an eerie glass house deep in the English countryside, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. Forty-eight hours later, she wakes up in a hospital bed injured but alive, with the knowledge that someone is dead.

Beautiful story of struggle that is NOT a comedy.

Beautiful story of struggle that is NOT a comedy.
Revisado: 09-24-13
Would you listen to Tony Hogan Bought Me an Ice-Cream Float Before He Stole My Ma again? Why?
Not likely only because it's not a story that needs repeated listening, though I loved listening to the narrator.
What did you like best about this story?
That it was told through the eyes and heart of a child.
Which character – as performed by Jane MacFarlane – was your favorite?
Janie
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Coming from a poor dysfunctional family I had no extreme reaction to this book. I felt strongly for the characters and their story and sometimes I felt like I was back home - in good ways and bad.
Any additional comments?
Adored the title of this book! It still makes me smile when I think of it. But this book was not a comedy in the slightest bit which is what I thought the title suggested. It was an honest story about a girl struggling to grow and thrive with a mother struggling to be a mother. It was a good read. I was interested the whole way through and loved listening to the narrator's voice. I will be looking for more from this author.
