Historia
Jennifer Burns has often been told that she's an "old soul," but no one is prepared for the young woman's decision to set aside her modern life in favor of the Old Order Amish world. Yet Jenny does exactly that, adopting Plain dress and settling in with Samuel and Rebecca Lapp while she works as a mother's helper for the bishop's wife - a far cry from her former job as an x-ray technician. The people of Hickory Hollow are curious about the beautiful young seeker among them, one handsome Amish man in particular.

A Wonderful Read
Revisado: 11-17-22
This is my favorite book in the series by far! I finished it in only 3 days. The story was so captivating, and Beverly Lewis' attention to detail was as always, was incredible! I identified so much with Jenny's character.
This is a must read for any Beverly Lewis fan!

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Best read in years!
Revisado: 10-06-20
I have to admit, this book started slow for me...I started to doubt all of the reviews but, I kept on listening and I am so glad that I did! I now understand the slowness I felt at the beginning. I believe it was meant to really make you feel what Aleena and Alice feel. The repetativeness that I heard made it so much easier for me to be transported to Poland during the war, or with Alice who I already related to in the Mom life department. I can't say much more, I don't want to spoil it for anyone! I will say however, once that "need" to know the next thing kicked in I couldn't find enough opportunities to listen. I was so engrossed I would tune out everyone and everything around me.
I would absolutely recommend this book over and over.
I'm now going to start "Before I Let You Go" . I am optimistic for another great read. Kelly Rimmer is now a stand out for me!
I'm sad that it's over....

Historia
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) is known around the world as the “Father of Psychoanalysis,” and for good reason. If anything, Freud’s first patient was himself. A sufferer of psychosomatic symptoms, Freud diagnosed himself as having a repressed antagonism against his father. From there, Freud began to build on his now famous concepts of the unconscious, infantile sexuality and repression. And of course, there’s his famous theory on the structure of the mind, which has made Id and Ego a commonly used part of the English lexicon.

Nauseating to listen to.
Revisado: 05-17-20
I wanted to like this. I wanted to gain a clearer understanding of my studies on Freud and all areas of his study. I actually may have, but I absolutely could NOT get past the narration. The monotony in his speech caused me to be in thought so far from the book, I'd have to go back again and again to find a place I could actually recall hearing to try and get back to the books content...
I wouldn't suggest it!
It also has such an aire of this nose up, "intellectuals only" sense. So to present with such an inauthentic narration (not having any knowledge of your audience) and then to only suffocate the listener is just irritating.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

What's with the language?
Revisado: 03-28-20
I looked forward to this book. I watch Trevor Noah, and just laugh. My teenage daughter heard this book was great, so I bought it thinking we would both enjoy it.
Um...yeah, nope! Having gone to South Africa, and living there for several months volunteering for the huge number of orphans that became orphans from the HIV and Aids epidemic. Naturally, knowing much about its history and the reality of the cultural divide was a draw for me as well.
This was instead a jumble of bits and pieces of his life. No clear timeline, and I literally could not listen to it for more than a few minutes or force myself through a chapter at a time! The swearing just is everywhere! E...V...E...R...Y...WHERE! I would get lost trying to sort through the randomness and still try to listen without trying to figure out the need for so much foul language. But it was impossible. Why? Why, in order to tell what probably would have been an otherwise light hearted and fun to hear story did they all have to be littered with so much cursing.
I feel like to explain this would be beating a dead horse, but it truly was ridiculous. It all made me see him in a new light, which is too bad...I barely watch him on TV anymore, I don't enjoy it. I try, but I can't.
Using that language, the constant cursing only comes across as unintelligent, and lacking in it's ability to share what could be inspiring and an eye opening teaching tool (with all that the truth of "Being Born A Crime" is to the country) while still being funny and entertaining!
I really was very disappointed!
And! I feel the need to make clear, I don't mind occassionally hearing the cursing, it seems that it is part of any comedian these days, almost expected. But to this excess? No, I'm sorry, I'd never be able to enjoy the story that I suppose is there somewhere...buried under all the F bombs and S***!!! He yells it so much. And the rest of them.
Too bad......
