Suarez has given us another pulse-pounding techno thriller. This time he takes us deeper into space than ever before.
The danger is very real, and the stakes are literally high.

Pretty good whodunit set on an interplanetary cruise ship. In addition to the basic mystery involving some very cleaver bad guys, you get lots of witty banter, a take-no-prisoners lawyer, and a way-too-cute dog.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have some of MRK's other books, but still a fun and diverting story.
3 stars for the story. 4 stars for the narration.

Not as good as The Martian IMHO. But, still an interesting story with a nice twist at the end.
The protagonist Ryland Grace has to science the hell out of multiple problems all the way through the story -- with a little help.

The narrator just doesn't work for me. Her presentation kept taking me out of the story rather than enhancing it.
Additionally, the story seems to be pretty much formulaic space opera. It features likable but bland characters and uninspired world building. A disappointment as I generally like military science fiction.

A troubled cop tracks a killer into a wilderness

Cody Hoyt is a cop--a homicide detective and a good one. Like quite a few cops (at least the fictional ones) he has a drinking problem, but is trying to keep it under control. His life spins out of control, however, when his good friend and AA sponsor is found dead in his cabin. At first it looks like an alcohol related accident, but Cody is convinced that it wasn't. Soon his hunch is backed up by some forensic results, and Cody is on the case like a dog on a bone, determined to find his friend's killer.
This is a C.J. Box story so naturally things don't stay in a town or city. Clues lead Cody to suspect that there is a connection to a group on a horseback trip into a wilderness area, and action soon shifts to Yellowstone national park. Along the way things get very dark and very dangerous. Things and people aren't what they seem and somebody seems to be anticipating Cody's moves. There are some twists and surprises and a good exciting finish. We have stampeding horses, dangerous wildlife, and even more dangerous people. By the end of the book the body count is pretty high.
Good book with some interesting characters. I am getting quite fond of C.J. Box.

In The Invisible Library Genevieve Cogman gives us a story involving a multitude of alternate worlds and a secret inter-dimensional library that operates across them. The hero of the story is Irene, an agent of the Library. A librarian spy! She and her assistant Kai have to undertake a mission to a dangerous and chaotic world to retrieve a valuable book. It proves to be difficult. They find themselves in an alternate London where both technology and magic work. The book they seek has already been stolen and its owner murdered. They must team up with a famous local detective to solve the murder and find the book. It soon becomes evident that several factions and individuals are working against them, including a renegade librarian. Dangers multiply and Irene and Kai have to respond to a series of attacks as they seek their prize. The action is almost non-stop. The story features malefic manipulative Fey, airship chases, chaotic magic, vampires, and attacks by werewolves and cyborgs. Great fun!
All in all, quite an enjoyable story.

A good and evenhanded history

A good and evenhanded history of the turbulent and bloody period when of the Plantagenets lost the throne of England to Tudors. It is a story of how a perfect storm of pride, misrule, greed, murder, betrayal, treachery, and plain old pigheadedness can bring a proud nation to chaos and near ruin. Good book.
(I now understand why George R.R. Martin chose to pattern his Song of Ice and Fire series after The Wars of the Roses.)

What an absolutely lovely cozy mystery. Bravo, Alan Bradley.
The story is told from the viewpoint of an eleven-year-old named Flavia de Luce. She is quite precocious and a bit mad about chemistry. The story is set in 1950 in England.
If you want to know more, please read the book.

A good crime thriller

"Fire And Ice" is a pretty good crime thriller. State trooper Liam Campbell steps off the plane at his new station in Newenham, Alaska and literally right into a murder scene. Talk about being tossed into the deep end! To complicate things, his predecessor leaves without giving him any kind of briefing or workup. Also, Liam's old flame is standing right there on the tarmac by the fresh body, making it a totally "WTF?" moment. Before he can even begin to come to grips with the murder at the airport, Liam is called away on another incident.
Liam never gets a chance to catch his breath as one incident follows on another. However, he doggedly presses on and eventually begins to tie the various threads of these seemingly disparate crimes together. Eventually we reach a conclusion with most of the bad guys paying for their crimes in one way or another.
This story gives us lots of action with murder, assaults, and old mysteries. Also, there is some romance (integral to the story), and more than one colorful, oddball characters. (Additionally, I learned much more about herring fishing than I ever expected to know.)
All in all, a good and interesting story.

Good crime thriller spiced with some humor

The adventures of Alaska state trooper Liam Campbell pick up again some three months after the events of "Fire And Ice". Liam is finally getting settled into his new position when he gets two big cases: a family has been found dead on their fishing boat and an assistant has been murdered at a remote archeological dig. Liam's life is further complicated by the unannounced arrivals of an attractive new assistant trooper and Liam's father, who is on a special mission for the Air Force. As I have learned to expect from Dana Stabenow, this story has several twists and mixes in action (once again, Liam's uniforms take a beating), murder, and old mysteries. Some of the colorful, oddball characters from the first book reappear, and the romance between Liam and Wy continues to simmer in the background. All in all, "So Sure Of Death" is a pretty good crime thriller spiced with some humor and romance.
