Historia
Evan Smoak lives by his own code. Once he was known as Orphan X. Trained as an off-the-books government assassin and spoken about only in whispers, Evan Smoak was one of the most talented - and most feared - men in the Program. But he broke free and reinvented himself as The Nowhere Man, a figure shrouded in mystery, known for helping the truly desperate. If anyone is truly desperate, it’s Max Merriweather.

Series Never Disappoints
Revisado: 02-11-23
After trying half a dozen other authors and finding the writing, characters or narration disappointing, I was relieved to get back to the latest installment of Orphan X, Gregg Hurwitz and Scott Brick never disappoint. Can’t wait for the next one.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Interesting look inside Bono’s head
Revisado: 11-25-22
I first heard U2 on a community radio broadcast of the “US Festival” in 1983. I was 14 years old and was hooked. Now 53 and a lifelong fan, I appreciated this glance inside Bono’s head and the bits of U2’s backstory. While I disagree with much of Bono’s political rants, which go on too long, I gained an appreciation for his genuine concern for the poor. It’s worth a listen if you love U2.

NOT narrated - digital word recognition
Revisado: 05-03-19
This audio translation uses digital word recognition software, not someone reading the book. Thus every word delivered is staccato. So painful. Also, proper names like “Nephi” are mispronounced as “Neff-e” instead of “knee-f-eye”.

Historia
Looking to some of the world's greatest thinkers and inspiring leaders, Brooks explores how, through internal struggle and a sense of their own limitations, they have built a strong inner character. Labor activist Frances Perkins understood the need to suppress parts of herself so that she could be an instrument in a larger cause. Dwight Eisenhower organized his life not around impulsive self-expression but considered self-restraint.

Self-righteous lecturing
Revisado: 09-30-18
David Brooks used to be thoughtful, smart and interesting. Now he seems to pander to the whims of the faux intellectuals.
