Historia
Adrift in a raft after a deadly ship explosion, 10 people struggle for survival at sea. Three days pass. Short on water, food, and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves. They pull him in. “Thank the Lord we found you,” a passenger says. “I am the Lord,” the man whispers. So begins Mitch Albom’s most beguiling and inspiring novel yet.

Not up to his usual.
Revisado: 12-18-21
Mitch is not a good reader and that also impacted my review. The story while it has a good message does not deliver. The whole book was a disappointment compared to his “The Five People you Meet in Heaven”. I made myself listen to the entire book and I struggled. I cannot recommend this title.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Pathologly maximus!
Revisado: 02-17-16
The reading was excellent and that is the only thing I can say positive about this book. The characters are so pathological as to be repulsive. I made myself read the entire book because some books just start a little slower than others. The last two hours were the best of the book, however, it did not make up for the horrible characters.

Historia
From the former secretary of defense, a strikingly candid, vivid account of serving Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. When Robert M. Gates received a call from the White House, he thought he'd long left Washington politics behind: After working for six presidents in both the CIA and the National Security Council, he was happily serving as president of Texas A&M University. But when he was asked to help a nation mired in two wars and to aid the troops doing the fighting, he answered what he felt was the call of duty.

Historia
Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a titanic figure among the world's great authors, and The Brothers Karamazov is often hailed as his finest novel. A masterpiece on many levels, it transcends the boundaries of a gripping murder mystery to become a moving account of the battle between love and hate, faith and despair, compassion and cruelty, good and evil.

What a painful read!
Revisado: 05-26-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I think the cast of characters was the most pathological group of human beings that I have ever had to experience. This was not really an argument to prove or disprove evidence of God. This was an excruciatingly long and pointless collection of hysterical monologues by hysterical (not as in funny) characters. If I had read this first, I would never have read "Crime and Punishment", a far superior work of literature.
Would you ever listen to anything by Fyodor Dostoyevsky again?
I would be hesitant after this.
Which character – as performed by Constantine Gregory – was your favorite?
None, they were all unmemorable, I hope.
Any additional comments?
I am sure that those who are true students of Russian literature are probably appalled by my review, however, I cannot find this book worthy of a positive recommendation.

A significant work !
Revisado: 04-27-15
What made the experience of listening to The Creature from Jekyll Island the most enjoyable?
I was taken in from the beginning. This is a significant work of sourced material that should be a must read for anyone involved in business or cares about what your money is really worth.
The historical and global "connections" are quite astounding.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This really does not apply to this work of nonfiction.
Which scene was your favorite?
N/A
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book had such a significant impact on me that I purchased the hard copy so that I could have the footnotes and sources.
Any additional comments?
This book probably requires at least a basic understanding of economics and some banking.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

A must read!
Revisado: 04-27-15
Even if you saw the movie, you did not get 30% of the real story and you are really missing out on what we really owe our military if you rely on the movie and accept it as the whole. Hollywood left out a significant part of this hero's story which is both heart wrenching and heart warming.
The narration is seamless and brings the pictures full force to your mind! Take a moment of your time to thank a Veteran and mean it!

Revisado: 09-29-14
I usually will make myself compete any book that I purchase in hopes that if nothing else, it will improve my literary fund of knowledge. This is the first book that I have ever returned. It was hopelessly wordy and seemed to be headed for some dark inexorable ending. I wish that I had read more of the reviews.

Historia
Stormy Weather centers on the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. The devastation of the storm has attracted crowds of voyeurs and impostors to Florida. Drawn by the chance to prey on Andrew's victims, misfits like the murderous ex-con Snapper and the dangerously seductive Edie find easy targets for their insurance scams. They're not prepared, though, when they meet their opposition, led by a hoary ex-governor who smokes toads.
Both hilariously funny and deadly accurate, Carl Hiaasen's novel will take you into a Florida that is far from the frilly palms and pink flamingos of its post cards.

Only in Florida!
Revisado: 07-24-13
I can't help myself. I love the screwball characters and how poetic justice seems to prevail. Since I am a native, and I lived through Hurricane Andrew I actually found some of the sub plots completely believable. The sarcasm and unexpected dialogue is fantastic and Skink is a mesmerizing character to say the least. I am hooked! Don't let the "save the planet" theme that permeates the book deter you. Read it and laugh out loud! George Wilson is a fantastic reader and he slips effortlessly and flawlessly between characters.

This is a different type of book for me and I was delighted. I heard a brief excerpt on Book Radio and had to have this title. All of us in audio book land know that the reader can make or break a book. George Guidall is great! I would listen to this one again. Also have a new author on my "favorites" list.
