Not her best
Revisado: 02-10-23
This book was very introspective to the point that it bogged down the story. I usually enjoy Dorothy Gilman’s stand-alone novels more than her Mrs. P novels because they’re deeper explorations but this was deeper than I found enjoyable.

Very long
Revisado: 01-15-20
The language and imagery of the story were beautiful and captivating, but the story itself went on way beyond the point where I cared anymore what happened.

What a disappointment

I was so disappointed that the story of this powerful woman scientist focused on her relationship and budding romance with her eventual husband instead of her accomplishments.

I loved this book!
Revisado: 11-27-12
Corduroy Mansions was just a fun book. It was upbeat and quick-moving. I quickly came to be interested in each character and found them to be varied and mostly likeable - except for the ones that weren't supposed to be. When the book was over I was tempted to use my next credit immediately on the next book, but I resisted because I don't want them all to be done too quickly. Simon Prebble did a wonderful job with the narration, with good pacing, enunciation, and emphasis. All in all, an excellent choice!

Good, but not as good as others
Revisado: 03-14-10
I eagerly read each of the Mary Russell books, and have also ventured into reading others of Laurie R King's books which are also good, but I was a little disappointed in this one. I thought that the narration was superb. Overall, definitely a book not to miss if you like Mary Russell, but not one I'd recommend to someone new to the series, even if it wasn't chronologically near the end.

Historia
Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life--solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes his patient. In response, Marlowe finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver.

dragged on and on
Revisado: 03-14-10
This book had some good points - I was interested in knowing what made the artist tick - but it dragged on so long that I just wanted it to be over. I hung on until the bitter end, though, and there continued to be good mixed with bad. I wasn't too fond of the psychiatrist, which didn't help, and I found the resolution to the artist's portion of the story to be just ridiculous. I thought the narrators did a good job and it helped bring out the story that there were different narrators for different characters.

Boring
Revisado: 01-12-10
I never felt invested in the characters, and the end was largely given away at the beginning, so there was no sense of suspense and little drama. I listened until the end out of a sense of duty more than anything. Mostly I felt like this audiobook was a waste of my time.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Depends on what you're looking for
Revisado: 03-17-09
I purchased this audiobook looking for an adventure/suspense story maybe enhanced with a little romance. What I got was a Harlequin Romance with some extra adventure. If you are looking for primarily a romance novel, you will probably like this story. One other note - I thought that using the 2 different narrators somewhat randomly was distracting, rather than enhancing.
