I listened to this audiobook a couple of years ago and now again. I wanted something familiar and I made the right choice. I didn’t remember as much as I thought I did but I enjoyed every moment of the book. The narrator didn’t have a terrible female voice to distract from the story. The building of suspense was just right. I recommend it.

Historia
General Fentiman is found dead on the afternoon of November 11 in his armchair at the Bellona Club—just hours after the passing of his wealthy estranged sister. At ninety years old, his physician certifies death by natural causes. The important question, then, is not how he died, but when, as the answer determines the fate of an inheritance worth half a million pounds. If he died after his sister, her fortune stands to go to his grandsons, who are sorely in need of the funds.

Mark Meadows really brings out Lord Wimsey
Revisado: 06-17-24
Dorothy Sayers wrote some really good detective stories and so far this one is my favorite. It was quite the roller coaster ride all the way to the end. Mark Meadows has a real flair for voices and accents, especially men, in his performances. I enjoyed this story from the beginning and it was worth the credit I spent on it.

The research done for this episode is amazing. It explains so much why I burned out when we were in our unit study days. Very eye opening on this side of the fence.

The best of Wodehouse
Revisado: 02-05-24
I absolutely loved this book! My favorite of the standalone books of Wodehouse. Witty, funny, surprising, lovely. Of course Jonathan Cecil is a master narrator of Wodehouse's books and this one is no different. I enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend.

For my very first listen to the unabridged version of this classic I was astounded by the richness of the language and development of the story.
Juliet Stevenson is always worth the Audible credit.

I give it a 3.25 stars
Revisado: 09-29-23
Though I love classic literature it pains me to rate this one so low. Geology is my least favorite of the sciences but I thought with it being an adventure story it would recover well, it didn’t. The main protagonist is a whiny young man that eventually grows bold near the end but at the great cost of my patience. I’m glad I got to mark another book off my TBR but this is not a reread for me.
Tim Curry did a great job but at times it was difficult to distinguish nephew from uncle. He’s the only reason I made it to the end.

Everyone - even Augustus the cat - has cause to be obliged to Jeeves when he manages to retrieve the infamous Book, the book kept under lock and key at the Junior Ganymede Club and which lays bare the private lives of three-quarters of the upper classes - and which could prove to be political dynamite at the Market Snodsbury by-election! It once again falls to Bertie Wooster's manservant to save the day.

I suppose the narration could be worse
Revisado: 09-01-23
Of course when you listen to a master like Jonathan Cecil narrate all other attempts fall short. I’ve heard a couple other narrators perform the Jeeves series but this one is abysmal. No voice change or inflection between characters which make it extremely difficult to know who’s speaking. It was painful to listen to this performance with such a good story. I’m glad I didn’t waste a credit on this.
Wodehouse’s Jeeves story is as good as ever. The man was a comic genius. If you can suffer through its still a great story.

Thank you, Cindy, for this episode and reminding us that during the “survival mode” seasons our children are still learning and being blessed. I needed this and I know so many other mamas will find this to be a blessing.

Commonplace Tales: Tales of Imagination––Stories, again, of the Christmas holidays, of George and Lucy, of the amusements, foibles, and virtues of children in their own condition of life, leave nothing to the imagination. The children know all about everything so well that it never occurs to them to play at the situations in any one of these tales, or even to read it twice over. But let them have tales of the imagination, scenes laid in other lands and other times, heroic adventures, hairbreadth escapes, delicious fairy tales in which they are never roughly pulled up by the impossible–...
