Historia
Let's start with a thought experiment. Take a moment to imagine yourself, only a supremely confident version. Think of how you'd be at work, at home, with those you love and those you don't. Think of all the things you'd do differently. Now, this is the important thing: You can feel this way right now. You can feel brave and confident and full of a sense of your own self-esteem right now, just as you are.

I couldn't make it past the 4th chapter. I can't handle the narrator's irritating narration style. She sounds fake and condescending. This would be so much better with a more natural sounding narrator.

Historia
It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago. What is supposed to be a fun family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day-old beard clippings.

Sometimes less is more
Revisado: 04-21-19
Very juvenile humor. I don't mind crude humor but these characters never seem to think above the 8th grade level. Boobs! Peens! Pee! Poop! It's way too forced. All of the characters are horrible people, bordering on abusive to each other. Other little things, like the narrators mispronouncing KOA repeatedly, really made this a chore to listen to. Lots of eye rolling for very little pay-off.

Historia
From the acclaimed author who enthralled the world with Exodus, Battle Cry, QB VII, Topaz, and other beloved classics of twentieth-century fiction comes a sweeping and powerful epic adventure that captures the "terrible beauty" of Ireland during its long and bloody struggle for freedom. It is the electrifying story of an idealistic young Catholic rebel and the valiant and beautiful Protestant girl who defied her heritage to join his cause. It is a tale of love and danger, of triumph at an unthinkable cost.

Finally! I've been waiting for years for this!
Revisado: 06-12-18
I have been waiting for this for years. I first read Trinity back in the 90s, when I was a teenager and it was gifted to me by my Irish father. I fell in love with it then and have read and re-read it countless times over the past two decades. Some years ago, I even wrote to Audible to request an audiobook version of Trinity, but I gave up after years of checking Leon Uris's Audible catalogue to no avail.
I highly recommend this audiobook for anyone who loves military and Irish historical fiction. It's so well researched, and with just the right amount of romance woven in--not overpowering, but enough to keep it exciting.
And a narrator who can do an Ulster accent! What a treat! I am normally reluctant to listen to "Irish" stories, because a bad "Irish" accent can make an audiobook unlistenable, but there are none of those worries here.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
Revisado: 05-13-18
I read the reviews. I read the reviews. I read the reviews I should have known...known...known. And yet the ratings were still so, so high. Why? Why? WHY? The narration was the saving grace, but even the narrators seemed to be so, so frustrated...so frustrated...so frustrated with the weird, weird repetition of words and phrases; a device used so frequently that I was soon able to predict when the author would repeat, repeat, repeat a word or phrase two or three times for no apparent reason, aside from a deep, deep lack of skill. It could have been good, good, good, but it was terrible. It was terrible. It was terrible.

So bad
Revisado: 03-27-18
The only good thing I can say about it is, once again, the male narrator was great. Everything else, the female narrator, the writing, the premise, even the grammar was terrible. Lots of low-key sexism, such as Romeo never treating Rimel as a person capable of making decisions for herself, and more than one reference about Ivy's promiscuity (but the boys can sleep with as many people as they want without judgment, of course). Save your time and credit.

Cute story, female narrator terrible
Revisado: 03-20-18
The narration would have been 5 stars except for the robotic woman narrating Rimmel's chapters. She was terrible, but the make narrator das great. The story was cute, although a bit shallow. Easy listen when you want entertainment but don't want to think too much.

I'm surprised this had such positive reviews
Revisado: 03-09-18
This was by far one of the worst stories I've listened to in a long time. Most of the characters were unlikeable and it was poorly written. Pretty much every male character treated the main character like she was a possession or a child. It was very irritating. The narration was good, although he spoke too fast at times. I had to slow the playback speed to 0.95. I love historical fiction but maybe I'm used to historical fiction that is well researched. This was not. Save your credit, unless you're looking for a cheesy melodrama without a strong female protagonist.

They say Paris is always a good idea.... You know what I say? Paris would be a much better idea if I spoke the dang language. I can't even board the metro to visit the Louvre without ending up at the Moulin Rouge, and let's not even mention how I'll ever make it through a day at my new office. Fortunately my company hooks me up with my own personal translator. Ooh la la. Or should I say bloody hell? Because he's charming, witty, and British, and he brings the city to life for me.

Richard Armitage... Sigh
Revisado: 02-26-18
I'm not a huge fan of this kind of romance but I absolutely adore Richard Armitage. I couldn't help but picture Mr Thornton from BBC's North and South talking dirty to me. Ha! Having said that, he is the best narrator. His voice is like velvet and I found myself skipping back to listen to his parts over again. So dreamy... Sigh

Gripping drama for historical fiction fans
Revisado: 03-07-15
North and South has been sitting in my Audible library for a couple years. I have no idea why it took me so long to listen to it, but once I finally started, I could not stop. At more than 30 hours, it's impossible to listen to it in one sitting, but I wish I could have. I stayed up well into the early morning hours on more than one occasion because I just couldn't turn it off. I found myself talking back to the narrator and yelling at my iPod because of all the dramatic twists and turns, the evil scheming, and the sheer desire for the protagonists to triumph.
I loved the attention to historical detail and the use of real historical figures as minor characters in the story line. Even the Afterword, in which the author talked about his research and the writing process, was interesting to me.
The narrator was superb, especially his voice for Orry. I could easily distinguish when Orry was speaking, even when in conversation with other South Carolina characters.
Five stars, all around. * * * * *

Muy caliente, but not my favourite KC
Revisado: 02-20-15
The Master was good, but not Kresley Cole's best. I love Kresley Cole...I will download anything she releases. She is a good writer who can tell a good story and creates interesting, funny characters. However, I didn't like The Master as much as I liked The Professional.
The format (a complete, single release rather than a three-part serial) is a HUGE improvement over The Professional, and I liked Cat and Maksim's story, but the sex wasn't as exciting as in the last book. It was a lot of the same sex, without a lot of variety. (Oh look, they're f*&%ing again.) It almost got monotonous and it started right off the bat, without much lead-in to the story. Also, kidnapping is sociopathic behaviour and I didn't find that sexy at all. It brought me right out the story. Points docked for that.
Despite all of that, I did like The Master. It wasn't as kinky as The Professional, which can either be a good thing or bad thing, depending on your preferences, but it was *muy caliente* (I do wish that we could ban the phrase "goody trail" though). I loved that Natalie and Aleksandr made appearances and it looks like KC is possibly setting up Dimitri's story line for the next book. Yay!
Kimberly Alexis, once again, was fantastic as the main female character. She narrated the story and gave voice to Cat with near perfection. She is a fantastic narrator. As with The Professional, however, I did not like her Russian accents as much. Something about her accent had me thinking "Boris and Natasha" rather than sexy Siberian billionaire. Minor complaint and I was usually able to look past it.
One more thing...even though I said this wasn't my favourite Kresley Cole book, if you're a Kresley Cole fan but the BDSM in The Professional wasn't your style, give The Master a try. KC has managed to write erotica that is sexy, smart and funny, without the cheesiness of your typical soft-core porn paperback.
