Historia
Dirty, Sacred Rivers explores South Asia's increasingly urgent water crisis, taking readers on a journey through North India, Nepal and Bangladesh, from the Himalaya to the Bay of Bengal. The book shows how rivers, traditionally revered by the people of the Indian subcontinent, have in recent decades deteriorated dramatically due to economic progress and gross mismanagement.

Any additional comments?
This is an engaging book that provides a wide-ranging introduction to the problems of water in South Asia (and I very much appreciate that by "South Asia," the author does not only mean India!) However, the listening experience is marred by the fact that the narrator has no idea how to pronounce names of people and places included in the text. Pronunciations are inconsistent, awkward, and sometimes laughably bad. Audible should have hired someone familiar with South Asian languages to coach the narrator or perhaps gone with a different narrator altogether.

Historia
The long-awaited new novel from Margaret Atwood. The Year of the Flood is a dystopic masterpiece and a testament to her visionary power. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life - has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life.

A great book, but the music is annoying

Any additional comments?
I really love this book. In the audio version, the use of multiple narrators works well to communicate the different characters' viewpoints. My one complaint is about the hymns of the God's Gardeners cult (there are 8 or 10 of them included throughout the story). The music to which they've been set is very cheesy and doesn't reflect the mood of the Gardeners very well, in my opinion. I would have preferred if the hymns had just been spoken rather than set to music. Anyway, that's a small complaint, and others may not find it to be so jarring. And the story is definitely worth a listen!

Annoying music
Revisado: 07-18-13
Would you listen to The Giver again? Why?
I'm not planning to listen to this again. I've read the book before and like the story very much, but it was interrupted by strange music at inopportune moments. A great book, but not a very good listening experience.
