Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

I don’t get the hype
Revisado: 11-07-24
In anticipation of the movie, I wanted to read the book to see what to expect… Now I want to watch the movie to see what will be left after all the sex is left out…!
There was a lot of strange, erotic, sexual descriptions and activities by the characters that seem unnecessary & inappropriate for a Wizard of Oz spinoff . I can’t imagine having your child or even your teenager read this book. It is inappropriate! I continued to read it because I wanted to see how it actually tied in and what the redeeming qualities were.
It is being promoted everywhere for young children…
They should NOT read this book!
The very last part, actually ties into the Wizard of Oz but there is so much ‘erotica’ throughout the book that doesn’t seem to have any relation to the story except to have shock value. There are long segments of the wicked witch’s mother having sex, a wild, perverted sexual party involving sex with animals by college students, and all throughout the book just inappropriate & sometimes graphic sex actions and comments that don’t add anything! I don’t get how this is supposed to be appropriate for young people. I felt disgusted that this is what we are promoting as being such a wonderful story!

Historia
1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.

Spectacularly Southern Saga
Revisado: 12-26-23
After listening to Sean narrate his books, I can’t imagine, just reading them… I would miss out on all the nuances of his pure Southern speak and his fantastic singing! (I despise when readers and actors try to imitate southern accents!) The story itself is so great. Many small details that paint a great picture of the characters and the setting are woven throughout. Twists and turns that are unexpected so the story is never predictable, and I got teary and laughed over & again. The only thing I didn’t like is when it was over! Thank you Sean for this enjoyable story, that parallels your own life! Thank you for always keeping it real!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

I had bought into the lies
Revisado: 02-03-23
Hearing the story, in Harry’s own words and Harry’s own voice, was a remarkable behind the scenes look at his up-bringing, the lack of responsibility in truth-telling by the British press, and the emotional coldness of the Royal family. Generations of ‘stiff upper lip” have not seemed to prepare 21st century royals for ‘real life’ outside of the royal machine.
Totally flipped the script for me!
I had seen Harry & Meg as the press portrayed…entitled, ungrateful & that Meg was the difficult American.
His truth was shocking at how different it was from the bill of goods the press sold, and continues to sell us.
It saddened me to hear how the inner politics of royal protocol controlled even the Queen, with ‘aides’ running too much of the show.
I’ve always loved the Monarchy & still do. This story was not a ‘tell all’ so much as an inside look at the way the press & the royal family have this deeply ingrained love-hate relationship, and how it affects, controls & destroys people…the royals anyone connected to them. How the inner circle of the Royal family operates,..and how their ‘normal’ lives are so not normal. It’s all about appearances, and sadly, emotions, imperfections & displays of affection don’t have a place.
I pray William & Kate can find a better balance within their own family & relationship with the press, so they learn from Harry how to better prepare the coming generations of ‘Spares’ to be both Royal & Human and to thrive.

I loved the first two books and was shocked when there was a different voice for this one… It almost kept me from finishing it… I am from the south and the voice of Bo was so terrible that I could hardly listen to it… It almost ruined the story for me but I persevered. If you don’t know a good southern accent, it probably won’t bother you. I do love a happy ending so all is well

Assuming their roles as the new Lord and Lady Kenefick and returning to Robinswood with the plan to drag it back from the brink of dereliction is taking its toll on Kate and Sam. With a young family to raise, a very limited budget, and only Kate’s parents to help, the task seems insurmountable.

I really wanted to like it
Revisado: 05-07-22
I love Dolly Parton… I love what she stands for, I love her music, her positive spirit… But, not sure if narrating this book was her best choice. The dialogue & the plot were sweet, but so simple and every time Dolly spoke I just focused on the sound of her voice (and not in a positive way). I couldn’t get over the fact that it was Dolly and lean into the character (which was very Dolly-like) Honestly, I would have probably laid it down maturely or if it weren’t written by a narrated by Dolly because I really wanted to love it

Revisado: 03-21-22
The author did a great job of taking hard to sort out facts, dates, names and dry details… And turning them into a colorful story about Henry & his wives! I felt I got to know each of them, and got a better picture of what life was like in those (frightening) times. Nice job & well worth the time investment

Revisado: 03-11-22
I don’t know who wrote four or five star ratings… There were no reviews when I began this book… I kept thinking there was a point to all of this naive rickshaw boy’s bad luck & suffering… One tragedy, one drama after another… I kept hoping for a happy ending or happy turn but no… None not even at the end. don’t waste your time! It’s not even worth being free!

Just couldn’t…
Revisado: 02-18-22
I love historical fiction… My daughter is adopted from China, so I love Chinese stories as well… But this… This was a sappy romantic story which I could not even finish! The character development just seemed too shallow, and there was an immediate bond between these two people that I wasn’t invested in…
Not what I expected. I was disappointed
