Historia
A young Mickey navigates through the dense Texas humidity of the '70s and out onto the porch every single time his granddaddy calls him, where he's presented with the heirloom recipe for life, love, and manhood. But all the logic and insight in the world cannot prepare him to operate correctly in the presence of a wonderfully beautiful little girl who moves in just behind his rear fence.

After a late night of partying, NYU student Matt Pine returns to his dorm room to devastating news: nearly his entire family - his mom, his dad, his little brother and sister - have been found dead from an apparent gas leak while vacationing in Mexico. I have never given a poor review like this and I hate to do it in a way, cuz this book is somebody’s baby. BUT, this is really one of the worst books I’ve ever experienced. It has a great premise but meandered, failed to develope the characters, included a lot of unnecessary and painful prose. The end is terrible, a real splat. I’m not sure how this book got the positive reviews it did, but buyer beware.....you will regret the purchase and any time you spend on this one.

This was so so, mediocre. Had I been reading the book, I’m guessing I would have skipped through much of it to finish. Very glad it is done, and hoping my next choice is better!

Historia
In this “rich, complex family saga” (USA Today) full of long-buried family secrets, Marilyn Connolly and David Sorenson fall in love in the 1970s, blithely ignorant of all that awaits them. By 2016, they have four radically different daughters, each in a state of unrest.

Historia
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

Historia
By all appearances, Frank and Maggie share a happy, loving marriage. But for the past six months, they have not spoken. Not a sentence, not a single word. Maggie isn’t sure what, exactly, provoked Frank’s silence, though she has a few ideas. Day after day, they have eaten meals together and slept in the same bed in an increasingly uncomfortable silence that has become, for Maggie, deafening.

Almost returned, but don’t!
Revisado: 10-05-20
In the first 20 mins I almost returned this book as I’m not a big fan of a ‘narrated story’ - a story that is told by primarily one character. But I hung in there and I’m so glad I did. Very good story with a relevant and sad story line. The ending calls for people to reckon with life being short and unpredictable so we need to be ready to meet our Maker.

Really torn....
Revisado: 06-08-20
First off, if you can’t handle child abuse content pass on this one. I will in the future. With that said, I did get pulled into the sad story. BUT, after all I went through with the main character, the ending was absolutely disappointing and unsatisfying. It felt like someone else came in and wrote the last 35 mins of the book, and it was bizarre and stopped abruptly. Too bad, it had potential, but I would not recommend.
