Historia
In 1743, a ship carrying 14 Russian sailors was headed for whaling grounds near Norway when a violent storm blew it far off course, where the ship froze into the ice. Some of the sailors remembered that other sailors had erected a hut on a nearby island and spent the winter there. Four sailors volunteered to go ashore to look for the hut in hopes of finding supplies or using it as a refuge should the 14 sailors be forced to spend the winter before the summer thaw could free their ship.

Not what I expected, but good
Revisado: 10-19-23
I expected a fleshed out, researched story about a shipwreck in the arctic, but instead I got a Gonzo-ish type of story where the author is trying to piece everything together. The author put a shocking amount of effort into tracking down every piece of the puzzle that exists, even going so far as to try to locate the encampment from 250 years before. In the end I wish there was more detail and documentation, but it simply didn’t exist. It is a great tale though, and definitely worth the read.

Historia
Although T. E. Lawrence, commonly known as "Lawrence of Arabia’, died in 1935, the story of his life has captured the imagination of succeeding generations. Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a monumental work in which he chronicles his role in leading the Arab Revolt against the Turks during the First World War. A reluctant leader, and wracked by guilt at the duplicity of the British, Lawrence nevertheless threw himself into his role, suffering the blistering desert conditions and masterminding military campaigns which culminated in the triumphant march of the Arabs into Damascus.

Wonderful and wise
Revisado: 07-30-18
Lawrence’s masterpiece taught me so much. The stories of triumph in battle keep your attention, and his private thoughts provoke deep thought in the listener and convey wisdom. It is a book that is truly unique, and the reader executed it with near perfection. Whether you are searching for wisdom, a war story, or an in depth explanation of the culture of the Middle Eastern people, you will find that and much more.

A blueprint. A bible. What Sun Tzu’s Art of War was to ancient China, Pimp is to the streets. As real as you can get without jumping in, this is the story of Iceberg Slim’s life as he saw, felt, tasted, and smelled it. It is a trip through hell by the one man who lived to tell the tale—the dangers of jail, addiction, and death that are still all too familiar for today’s Black community. By telling the story of one man’s struggles and triumphs in an underground world, Pimp shows us the game doesn’t change; it just has a different swagger.

Difficult but necessary
Revisado: 07-16-18
I honestly believe this is a book that most people should read/hear. It doesn’t glamorize the criminal world in which the author lived. What it does is give details that will make you cringe, and will sometimes force you to stop for a moment to compose yourself. It is a difficult read, but it is one I can’t recommend enough.
