Historia
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Gloriously topical
Revisado: 03-25-21
The accurate little topical details of internet life were a delightful change of pace. The character development was full and complete. Despite being topical the author successfully kept any obvious political leanings out of story.
The one problem keeping this from a 5 star rating is the language used too blue. The F-bomb loses its power if it’s used to much. I was finding myself turning down the volume when a character would go in a F-bomb rant.

Tracing the extraordinary trajectory of Julius Caesar's life, Adrian Goldsworthy covers not only the great Roman emperor's accomplishments as charismatic orator, conquering general, and powerful dictator but also lesser-known chapters. Ultimately, Goldsworthy realizes the full complexity of Caesar's character and shows why his political and military leadership continues to resonate some 2,000 years later.

This man was a Colossus
Revisado: 11-28-18
The book may be long but even at this length the life of Caesar out shines it. I am left with a renewed admiration for the man. I learned much about who this man truly was from the priesthood to the general or the lover to the politician he lived it all. I am left wanting learn more; which is the mark of a truly great history book.

Historia
In his most provocative and practical book yet, one of the foremost thinkers of our time redefines what it means to understand the world, succeed in a profession, contribute to a fair and just society, detect nonsense, and influence others. Citing examples ranging from Hammurabi to Seneca, Antaeus the Giant to Donald Trump, Nassim Nicholas Taleb shows how the willingness to accept one's own risks is an essential attribute of heroes, saints, and flourishing people in all walks of life.

Everyone who shares a profit should share the loss
Revisado: 07-27-18
Personally he treatment of talking head academics, limousine liberals and bankers where some of the funniest and most insightful of anything I have read or listened to recently.
His explanation that the primary driver of a financial crisis is usually someone who is benefiting from taking a risk but also taking the loss of a risk. This simple yet profound explanation is then applied to many different aspects of life. Never trust the opinion of someone who does not share the results of the taking that opinion.

To most of us, learning something 'the hard way' implies wasted time and effort. Good teaching, we believe, should be creatively tailored to the different learning styles of students and should use strategies that make learning easier. Make It Stick turns fashionable ideas like these on their head and will appeal to all those interested in the challenge of lifelong learning and self-improvement.

Learning harder is better.
Revisado: 11-22-16
Well done overall. The first few chapters could be compressed a bit as I felt that the author was repeating the concept in slightly different ways.
The author goes into the concept that tests, as originally intend to gauge what has been learned, are required for long term deep learning. Although tests that do not count for a grade are not productive.
I like his concepts and know from my own experience this is how I learned. Shot bursts of a subject, then another before returning to review. Followed by periods of downtime before repeating the cycle.
Recommend this for anyone looking to make their study time more effective.

Historia
Putting history into a perspective, Irish History for Dummies is an engaging, entertaining and educational trip through time, packing in equal parts fun and facts, providing listeners with a riveting history of this ancient land. The history of Ireland has shaped the world far beyond its borders. And few stories have a greater need for a balanced and light-hearted telling than the complex and often controversial saga of Ireland and her people.

Nice summary of Irish history.

I have read many articles about different parts of Irish history but it is nice to have a chronological story to fill in the blanks. It was very informative to understand the various conflicts with England and English culture.

It's nice to hear classics I never had time to read. Hearing the basis of so many future SciFi stories gives them a sense of history or evolution.
