I listened to this book over the course of three days. It was very gripping. This is in part because of the narration--which is great--but I think it's even more so because of the story. The author is very honest in her self-exploration of the choices that led her to a life in finance, and the consequences of her decisions for others--and herself. She gives the reader entry into a world that I did not know much about and explains the mental, emotional, and physical transformation that it worked on her. It's also a poignant and nuanced account of life as a Chinese-American woman, with a very layered, fair (but at times very brutal) depiction of her household growing up. She's a talented writer and I admire her very being very frank in sharing this difficult story, albeit one that ends on a very hopeful note.

Very well written and narrated. Gutting and important. May listen to again. I do hope the author continues to write more.

The best book I have read for providing a philosophical foundation for psychoanalysis—and for explaining why philosophy should incorporate it. Uses Aristotle, Williams, and the literature on moral psychology to this end. Also a succinct and powerful illustration of Freud’s ideas, with useful critical insights on transference, religion, and the nature of pleasure and trauma. Will listen again
