Historia

Historia
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave.

Interesting, but slow and tedious
Revisado: 06-24-20
Ok, I NEVER write reviews, but I felt compelled to write one now, so as to warn future listeners. The information presented in this book is very cool and interesting, BUT it is read in a monotone: slow, emotionless, bland and boring. My mind kept wandering off as I listened, so I was forced to "rewind" the chapters multiple times, which made the book impossible to enjoy. I am a biologist, and was interested in all that was relayed here, but for me it was like having a scientific paper read aloud...awful. I know I would have enjoyed this book more, and probably would remember more of what was presented if a professional actor had read it; someone able to engage the listener, to make you passionate about these incredible organisms.

Historia
The Greek myths are amongst the greatest stories ever told, passed down through millennia and inspiring writers and artists as varied as Shakespeare, Michelangelo, James Joyce and Walt Disney. They are embedded deeply in the traditions, tales and cultural DNA of the West. You'll fall in love with Zeus, marvel at the birth of Athena, wince at Cronus and Gaia's revenge on Ouranos, weep with King Midas and hunt with the beautiful and ferocious Artemis.

Simply wonderful
Revisado: 05-02-19
Thank you, thank you, thank you...what a wonderful listen! I loved Stephen Fry's narration and retelling of Greek Myths, it was an extremely entertaining and learning experience. I laughed out loud several times during his interpretation of some myths. I wish I had the time to listen to the whole thing again, as these stories definitely need to be heard more than once to stick. Still, I am sure I'll find time to now and again listen to some of the myths.
