Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Historia
All Damali Richards ever wanted to do was create music and bring it to the people. Now she is a Spoken Word artist and the top act for Warriors of Light Records. But come nightfall, she hunts vampires and demons - predators that people tend to dismiss as myth or fantasy. But Damali and her Guardian team cannot afford such delusions, especially now, when a group of rogue vampires have been killing the artists of Warriors of Light and their rival, Blood Music.

Good story, wrong narrator.
Revisado: 12-09-13
I am a big fan of the late Leslie Esdaile, and the only reason I never read her vampire huntress series is I thought they were for teen readers. After her passing, I decided I wanted to read all of her books. This is a very good story, but the narrator is just wrong. Don’t get me wrong, she reads/narrates very well, but not for an African American story-line. I was constantly reminded that this was a white woman trying to sound black. I finally got use to it, but I think I will read (not listen) to the rest of the series. Overall, still a good story.

I wanted to like it.
Revisado: 10-22-13
This story started out with a bang! I was intrigued and wanted more. As the story progressed I just couldn’t take the narrator (Note to all authors: PLEASE let a professional narrate your audio books!)
I got more than half-way though it before I decided I couldn’t listen to him read another word. The storyline was interesting enough that I would consider checking it out at the library to see how it ends – but this was a waste of an audible credit.

On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 09-06-13
This review is for the Audible version. I gave this book “5 stars” because I enjoyed it (I think.)
I say I think because it took me a few chapters to catch on to what the heck was happening. I felt as if I was trapped in a Twilight Zone episode for a minute. Once I got the jest of what was happening I was able to concentrate more on the story – and a lot of story(s) it was.
I thought that the narrator, Fenella Woolgar, did an excellent job. She made each character come alive, and there was a distinct difference in their voices. It was a very unique approach to storytelling, and I think the book will find its way into the classroom because of this uniqueness.
However… there were times when I thought to myself… Lord is this every going to end! I did manage to make it to the end, and as I reflect back I enjoyed it as a whole. At the end of the book I knew all of the characters very well, and I have read many books where that was not the case.
If you appreciate “a different” approach to literature you will enjoy this. But be prepared to think as well as be entertained.

Not as Good as "The Lost Gate"
Revisado: 06-22-13
I was really looking forward to this sequel as I really enjoyed The Lost Gate… but this one, not so much. It was long and drawn out, and boring. I finished it, because I had invested so much listening time, but I don't think I will read or listen to book 3 until after I read a lot of reviews.

Not My Favorite Robert Sawyer Book
Revisado: 06-05-13
Let me start by saying I am a Robert Sawyer fan and I always purchase his books as soon as they are published on reputation alone. However, “Triggers” is my least favorite so far, it lacked the “what if” scenarios that I normally look forward to when reading Sawyer’s works. As a Christian, I felt as if this novel was a little “too preachy” with the authors atheist beliefs. It lacked theological debate and I didn’t enjoy it at all.

Startling, unusual, and yet irresistably readable, Among Others is at once the compelling story of a young woman struggling to escape a troubled childhood, a brilliant diary of first encounters with the great novels of modern fantasy and SF, and a spellbinding tale of escape from ancient enchantment.

Long and Drawn Out
Revisado: 06-05-13
I recommended this book to my book club based on the reviews, I don’t know if they will ever forgive me. I think I was the only one who finished it. Although I enjoyed the narrator, it took the book forever to get to the point. To me, there wasn’t much substance. I felt like I was listening to a chronicle of all the science fiction books every written and caught myself wonder whether or not I had read each book mentioned. Perhaps that was the point of it all, who knows? It was OK to read on my own, but not a good book club selection. GBC members please forgive me :-)

I Did Not Want It to End
Revisado: 06-05-13
This is one of the best books that I have ever listened to (or read). The story has all of the elements that make a good book. Normally, when I am finished with a book, the characters vanish; however, these characters are so well developed that they have become a part of my permanent memory like people I actually know. The book was so much fun to listen to and I really enjoyed how the sad and serious parts managed to have a little levity so the book would not be too depressing. The narrators did an excellent job; they made the story come to life. (Hey Oprah, this is a book you should choose for your book club! Try having one book that is not full of misery for a change.) I give it 5 stilettos! I highly recommend it.

Good Story but Slow
Revisado: 04-03-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Nothing about the book, but if I had to listen to it again I would probably listen to an abridged version. It took too long to get to the meat of the story.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Much like the movie Groundhogs day, but serious.
What about Orlagh Cassidy’s performance did you like?
She did an overall good job with the character voices. You could distinctly tell who was who.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably

Enjoyable Listen
Revisado: 04-03-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a well written book, that really demonstrates the theory of "show don't tell". The author takes us through the life of Hattie and her descendants in a captivating way.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Oprah's Book Club 2.0)?
In the Alice and Billups chapter, when Alice finds out who Billups has been seeing (don't want to spoil this for anyone) and her reaction.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Bell.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The Twelve Tribes of Hattie - "Descendants of Job"
Any additional comments?
As usual, Oprah picks a pretty depressing story. But it is well written and the performances are excellent. It was worth the time spent listening to it.
