Cliffhangers should be illegal I swear. But this book. This world. Is so so good. Check TWs because it is very very dark but the motivations of the characters and their development were everything to me. I was scared to start this duology because it seemed polarizing but I am glad I gave it a go finally. My heart was ripped to shreds at the end (though I expected it from a wtf is this sort of way) and the spicy scenes were spicing. Suuuuper great voice acting. FMC and Sebian’s MMC ate and left absolutely no crumbs. Round of applause. Wish we could get a duet version!

Honest thought/mild rant. I’m not the biggest fan of Tor Toms’ cadence (I’ve experienced it at a more extreme level in Aran’s arc of the Cruel Shifterverse by Jasmine Mas). While I loved and lived in her story and universe, he constantly pulled me out of the headspace with the way he read the lines. This is admittedly much better so perhaps it was a learning experience, but I can still sort of hear it at times in Malyr’s POVs. Overall, read it for Malyr’s chapters and listen to everyone else’s if the switch up doesn’t bother you/give him a go just knowing that it could potentially irk you.

Excited to run over and start book two!

Loved the outlines be of the story and the interconnection of characters from the other series (I didn’t read those first but it is wonderful to know I will have other content to connect to without spoilers). I just wish we had an extended epilogue detailing changes that may have happened or politics that have shifted or even the*SPOILERS*

weddings that potentially were in motion to take place at the end/further explore the 5s relationship with each other even outside a sexual place. Overall, it was a nice read but nothing that isn’t what I haven’t read before. What tips the scale past the 3 star mark is both Cain’s but, particularly, Dante’s character development. Sawyer’s wasn’t something to dismiss either! I am just a huuuuge sucker for that. When a character recognizes their faults and recovers from it in a profound way, you just have my heart on a silver platter. Such a fun ride!!

This book is so much better than the first one. And the voice acting was sooo good. I was in STITCHES laughing at chapter 9 (chapter 11 on audible) 😂. And of course, Kasi is fulfilling my love for her male voices as I remember her from The Bonds That Tie Series. 😍

The VAs, duet style of reading, and the music within brought this to life. I devoured the world, the writing and the story. The slow burn was excellent and, though my only complaint is I wished there were more interactions between the main characters to really sus out the slow burn better, it was still amazing. I was addicted to the character building and development, loved the found family beyond words (Hollis is my favorite by far!) and was thrilled in the challenge of how much we had to pay attention to wording and actions to have a good grip on the direction of the story. My heart is full. Thank you Miranda.

Poetic Rendering of Dark Romance

This was probably the most whimsical dark romance that I’ve ever read. A neurodivergent woman and a neurotypical man collide in a ploy bigger than their relationship with each other. It was an absolute pleasure to explore Ivy’s headspace and how she navigates the world. This is deep, illuminating, and artistic in how the characters develop and how the story fleshes out. That said, this isn’t for everyone. I adore the flowery descriptions here and how it adds to the characters BUT it may be too much verbiage for others that like it straight to the point. The story gets a 4 star because it would have been nice to cut a little bit of the descriptions of the characters’ inner monologues for a bit more fleshing out of the people that are the aggressors in the story. I loved it anyhow, but if you miss something from an inner monologue, it can mess with the story. I find it easier to focus on dialogue exchanges overall when pushing a point home about important topics. This is a very niche part of dark romance and I am living for it! Definitely would love more - which we have in the form of the next book! The voice actors actually seemed to match the age of the characters and it was a refreshing change. I find that some voices sound too mature for some of the younger characters but that isn’t the case here. I did like the male VA but found some variations for the side character voices that made it sometimes difficult to tell which character from which BUT he nailed Wells, the MMC and it was sooooo nice! Give this a chance if you are looking for a deeper dive into the minds of the main characters of a dark romance.

I was SOBBING so much during this. The agony and angst that the characters had to work through cut deep and the voice acting was amazing. You could hear every emotion in their voices. I felt it would have hit better in duet style though. I wished that there was a bit more story to flesh out and that it wrapped up a bit too neatly and quickly from a bad guys lose standpoint, BUT that it ended up where it needed to be overall. I am scarred from this book but will DEFINITELY seek out this author again.
