5 Stars – A Stunning, Emotional Masterpiece

Lights Out by Navessa Allen is, quite simply, phenomenal. From the first chapter, I was completely enthralled by Aly and Josh’s story. Their chemistry crackles off the page, and the emotional journey they go on—both individually and together—is raw, honest, and beautifully portrayed.
One of the things I loved most was the mask theme—how it was both literal and metaphorical. The way Allen explores the masks we wear to protect ourselves, to hide pain, to survive… it hit me right in the chest. It added such depth to the story and made Aly and Josh’s connection all the more powerful as they slowly peeled those layers back with each other.
Navessa Allen’s writing is lyrical without ever feeling flowery, and she balances tension, vulnerability, and tenderness in a way that feels effortless. Lights Out is the kind of book that lingers with you long after the final page. A heartfelt, five-star read—I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I absolutely loved this book series. I will be doing another listen through soon. The sirens curse trilogy was the perfect way for me to end my summer.
