Historia
Your dad’s not a good person. Your dad killed people, son. These are some of the last words Jack Givins’ father spoke to him before he was whisked away by witness protection, leaving Jack and his mother to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives as best they could. Years later, Jack is a grown man with problems of his own. He’s a talented but struggling author, barely scraping by on the royalties from his moderately successful first book. So when the U.S. Marshals approach him with a lucrative opportunity, he’s in no position to turn them down.

Obviously idiotic author
Revisado: 03-13-24
The story is okay, but the author very quickly shows himself to be a woke idiot--one of those people who revealed themselves during the "pandemic" to believe they should have the power to tell everyone else what to do and to revile anyone exercising any kind of free will or free speech.

Historia
A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun. D. D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman - Evie Carter - from a case many years back. Evie's father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many. Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim - a hostage - and her captor knew this man.

Ugh. Lisa Gardner at her worst.
Revisado: 02-10-20
I'm a fan of most of Gardner's mysteries, but this one was really bad. I'm mainly talking about the plot. And she even included one of those scenes where the bad guy admits to everything . . . just lays it all out . . . and under ridiculous conditions, no less. It's hard to believe this drivel was written by an experienced writer.

Historia
In the dead of winter, outside a small Minnesota town, state troopers pull two young women and their car from the icy Black Root River. One is found downriver, drowned, while the other is found at the scene - half-frozen but alive. What happened was no accident, and news of the crime awakens the community's memories of another young woman who lost her life in the same river 10 years earlier and whose killer may still live among them.

Where the heck is the rest of the book?
Revisado: 08-26-19
I am very angry that after listening for 14+ hours, the book has stopped with no real ending. How dare Mr. Johnston do this? On the other hand, the narrator is one of the best I've ever heard.

Don't waste your time.
Revisado: 05-21-18
This book has a stupid plot that barely gets developed and doesn't make much sense. By the middle of the book, I was thinking I would puke if I heard one more "I'm sorry." Overly dramatic. Not realistic. Don't waste your time.

Didn't enjoy this book
Revisado: 02-16-17
What would have made Criminal better?
A better author
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not anything by this author
Would you be willing to try another one of Kathleen Early’s performances?
No--she's not a good reader
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Criminal?
Too many to count
Any additional comments?
I don't want to read something I could have written myself. This is basic play-by-play. And the narrator, while not as bad as some, is not good at this job.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS AUTHOR'S NEXT BOOK!
Revisado: 01-21-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Good As Gone to be better than the print version?
Haven't read the print version
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It definitely did.
What about Karen Peakes’s performance did you like?
Very solid performance.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It did make me cry a little.
Any additional comments?
After reading the negative reviews on this book, I hesitated to even spend the few dollars it would cost as a "daily deal." But it was actually fantastic. I think the people who had a hard time following the changing of the narrator (not the reader) just weren't willing to wait for the payoff.
