Historia
Centering prayer is the path to a wonderful and radical new way of seeing the world. It is not, as is sometimes thought, simply an act of devotional piety, nor is it a Christianized form of other meditation methods. Cynthia Bourgeault here cuts through the misconceptions to show that centering prayer is in fact a pioneering development within the Christian contemplative tradition.

Connecting Science with Mystery
Revisado: 02-02-24
If you are looking to deepen your perception of self and God this is the book for you. I am not a scholar but enjoyed the modern day scientific connections the author teaches to help my mind let go and allow the great mystery of God to settle softly in my soul, discovering an opening or vastness called Love.

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Historia
Julian of Norwich was a 14th-century Christian mystic, important English theologian, and visionary writer. Indeed, her masterpiece, A Revelation of Divine Love (or Showings), is the first book written by a woman in English. Six centuries after her death, she continues to inspire with her pious and moving words. Now you can enjoy this brilliant course on Julian. In nine lectures you'll consider what we know (and don't know) about her life and the larger historical context into which she fits.

The reader/professor’s quick way of speaking in spurts eventually grew on me and I am so glad I listened to the end. I appreciate her insights and study of Julian of Norwich and highly recommend listening if you tend to feel alone deep in your soul. I have a new friend and her name is Julian.

Historia
Stephen Mitchell, the renowned translator of the Tao Te Ching, selected excerpts from that ancient text as a stimulus for Byron Katie to talk about the most essential issues that face us all: life and death, good and evil, love, work, and fulfillment. The result is an audiobook that allows the timeless insights of the Tao Te Ching to resonate anew for us today, while offering a vivid and illuminating glimpse into the life of someone who lives what Lao-tzu wrote more than 2,500 years ago.

A gift for those seeking clarity
Revisado: 10-24-15
I Like her simplicity, question her foundation. She reflects back to her own past yet claims the past is gone, which it is but uses hers as her foundation. Her message is wonderfully freeing and I love the tools. One has only to read Father Walter Ciszek, St. Thomas Aquinas, Jean Pierre de Caussade and more to experience the same message but Byron Katie's questions help one question their own thoughts to find the peace and love and freedom available to all. I get the sense she has a strong moral ideal but claims she will and can accept whatever comes and whatever goes. Well, would she accept immorality in her home if someone were to bring it there? Probably not...living in her body she still has a foundation based on some moral code that has been taught to her otherwise she might be a cannibal or something, yet claims to be nothing and know nothing. Everything is in her imagination! That is incredible to me and a little delusional but the tools she teaches are well worth the time...

Continuing their focus on humanitarian issues, journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn take us to Africa and Asia, where many women live in profoundly dire circumstances.

Everyone should read this book!!
Revisado: 10-03-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Half the Sky to be better than the print version?
Can't make that judgement. I only have the audio version and it was well read, informative, entertaining...I cried throughout most of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
I like how they personalized the information.
Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?
I didn't have a favorite. She did a wonderful job on all of them.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I found myself having to pause the book and compose myself to listen on. It brought up every emotion that I have. As a result, I am finishing up a course to be certified to teach English overseas.
Any additional comments?
I only have one question for the authors. At one point they bring up the Prophet Mohammed's first wife and use her as a positive example for women but never mention that she was only 6 (?) when he married her. I am not sure about that exact age but I read a biography of him and it was disturbing to say the least.

Kate Mulgrew is wonderful. Just ask her...
Revisado: 10-03-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you like Kate Mulgrew and you don't mind listening to her puff herself up. Go for it.
What was most disappointing about Kate Mulgrew’s story?
She has had a good life...she obviously thinks it been worth writing about..
Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Mulgrew’s performances?
NO...way toooooo much drama. I'm exhausted and actually have burst out laughing over what she identifies as suffering. She should write about the suffering she put her husbands and children through. Don't want to be so judgmental but REALLY??
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger and disappointment. No doubt she has worked hard but has lived a grand life. She acts like she has had all this disappointment and suffering. At one point she says she only had $10,000 in the bank and her house. REALLY? Most people in the world have never seen $10,000 in the bank. Get real! Open your eyes, Kate.
Any additional comments?
Don't waste your money. It's entertaining but painful to hear all the drama. I didn't know her and randomly picked the book hoping for a good memoir. I do have to say that I will know her from now on.
