Historia
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

A beautiful life story of a woman and women. Overcoming bigotry and prejudice in society.
Revisado: 02-07-24
I think I really enjoyed this story and audiobooks experience. It’s a sweet story of one main character mingled with the stories of several characters where women struggle with and navigate oppression, gender identity, social diversity, prejudice and bigotry. The narrators were excellent at conveying care and humanity. I hope that was the author’s intent.
I cared about all the characters as though I knew them. That’s an accomplishment.
Some readers gave this book a lower score or stated disappointment in the ending. We all have our preferences.
I was very satisfied with this ending.
I give this story a high score. It aligns with my values of promoting peace and ends with a message of engaging in caring and promoting peace.
If you’re looking for an explosive conclusion of revenge, fire and reckoning, move to another book.
This is a beautiful story about being true to yourself while in a state of conflict and under pressure, while taking up space in society.
Making peace with dragons.

Coffee break size entertainment
Revisado: 11-22-23
I really enjoyed these clever and engaging short stories. Perfect little coffee break length distraction. I would like the producers to add longer pauses or audible transitions so I can pause between stories. Nice work.

Historia
In Do Nothing, award-winning journalist Celeste Headlee illuminates a new path ahead, seeking to institute a global shift in our thinking so we can stop sabotaging our well-being, put work aside, and start living instead of doing. As it turns out, we’re searching for external solutions to an internal problem. We won’t find what we’re searching for in punishing diets, productivity apps, or the latest self-improvement schemes. Yet all is not lost - we just need to learn how to take time for ourselves, without agenda or profit, and redefine what is truly worthwhile.

I really enjoyed this one
Revisado: 02-08-23
This book reads like a thesis at times, like chat with a good friend and like a letter of care and support to a friend.
I enjoyed it well enough that I plan on getting a paper copy to use a reference.
Good work Celeste. I may need to quote you for my own thesis and research.

Historia
When it comes to illness, sometimes the end is just the beginning. Recovery and convalescence are words that exist at the periphery of our lives - until we are forced to contend with what they really mean. Here, GP and writer Gavin Francis explores how - and why - we get better, revealing the many shapes recovery takes, its shifting history and the frequent failure of our modern lives to make adequate space for it.

Soothing and enlightening
Revisado: 11-23-22
I really enjoyed this book enough that I will listen to it again. I’m older now and always admire medical professionals who are driven to care. It helped me remember the importance of recovery as a process. The way he shared his perspective helped me see a physician as a collaborator in the process of healing and rethink healing, care and recovery.

Historia
Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

I was well entertained
Revisado: 12-27-20
Having listened to this right after book 1, American Gods, it was fun to the spirit of both stories fresh together.
I spend more than 2 hours a day listening to books during my commute. These two books were great fun to enjoy back to back.
Both are completely different and can be enjoyed separately on their own.

I tried to like it and found this style really did not work for me. What was likely funny to most was awful to me. I will return this book.

Historia
During Sarah Smarsh’s turbulent childhood in Kansas in the 1980s and 1990s, the forces of cyclical poverty and the country’s changing economic policies solidified her family’s place among the working poor. By telling the story of her life and the lives of the people she loves, Smarsh challenges us to look more closely at the class divide in our country and examine the myths about people thought to be less because they earn less.

Telling if this great perspective using the voice of mother to daughter was indeed a brilliant technique. I could identify with much of this coming from rural Canada. Nice work.

Touching and moving.
Revisado: 01-03-19
I was quite surprised to find myself connecting with parts of her story and parts of her self in the book. Michelle has a talent of humanizing the mythical image of life in so many ways and places. I felt she opened a door to her many lives, her community and her worlds as they changed, and invited us to walk with her a while. Truly a powerful woman who invited everyone to be empowered to make the world a better place, one small movement at a time with grace and compassion. Thank you Michelle for sharing the power in vulnerability.
