Interesting theme but not well developed. Lacked depth and punch. I had to finish it because it was a book club pick.

Would you throw away a great dinner because you don’t like the plate where it was served?

Yes, Mr. Goggins curses a lot, so does occasionally Mr. Skolnick and I don’t consider myself a curser BUT, I think that it is so well worth it to get over it, if it bothers you that much, in order to appreciate the amazing story of perhaps the biggest physical and mental challenges overcame by a human being.

Mr. Goggins is real and raw, showing strength by being totally vulnerable and exposing his soul to whoever is willing to listen. There are a high number of pearls of wisdom to be distilled behind the raw language. I really think that like it doesn’t make sense to throw away a great dinner just because you don’t like the plate where it is served, it would be a shame not to gain so much from Mr. Goggins book just because he curses.

I don’t think he is misogynistic, even when he uses the cursing word that refers to the female genitalia when referring to a coward. I don’t see the intention to offend women behind it, just a misapplication of the term to its opposite meaning as women are strong and their bodies are perfect vessels for the miracle of life. He speaks with high respect about his mother and the women in his life throughout the book.

And...maybe one day he will surprise us with another book with the most descriptive, expressive use of the English language without cursing words! Maybe when he realizes that our language is so rich to paint pictures, and that we really create with words (like when God created the world He SPOKE each and every one of his creations: “be light”... and so forth) maybe he will take the huge challenge of becoming a Master of the Word, not to please his critics but because is his nature to embark in any challenge that comes his way to better himself.

I will listen for a second time, I think there are more lessons to learn that I might have missed the first time. Great job, Roger that!

The author provides concise, clear and doable advice. It really opened my mind and made me realize what I have been doing wrong and why some attempts at attaining goals have failed. He provides well researched information that supports his views.

Totally worth it. Every chapter is a mini study on the subject to help you expand if you are serious about conquering yourself once you arrive to the conclusion that YOU are responsible for your own successes and failures.
