Licensed battlefield guide James Hessler has produced the most deeply-researched, full-length biography to appear on this remarkable American icon. No individual who fought at Gettysburg was more controversial, both personally and professionally, than Major General Daniel E. Sickles. For Civil War enthusiasts who want to understand General Sickles’ scandalous life, Gettysburg’s battlefield strategies, the in-fighting within the Army of the Potomac, and the development of today’s National Park will find Sickles at Gettysburg it is a must-listen.

Great Work
Revisado: 10-29-23
Great work covering the peach orchard. Often overlooked for other parts of the battlefield, this book does a fantastic job bringing the peach orchard and its significance back to life. Even if its a bit friendlier towards Dan sickles

Historia
The sinking of the German battleship Bismarck - a masterpiece of engineering, well-armored with a main artillery of eight 15-inch guns - was one of the most dramatic events of World War II. She left the port of Gotenhafen for her first operation on the night of 18 May 1941, yet was almost immediately discovered by Norwegian resistance and Allied air reconnaissance. British battlecruiser Hood was quickly dispatched from Scapa Flow to intercept the Bismarck, together with new battleship Prince of Wales.

If youre going to get paid to read a historical work atleast care enough to learn proper pronunciation
Revisado: 03-27-23
Its Pronounced “Folk-Sul” not “Four Castle” and a million other things you mis pronounced because you didnt bother to do your homework. Great book read by someone who wasnt into it.

Historia
In May 1941 the German battleship Bismarck, accompanied by heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, broke out into the Atlantic to attack Allied shipping. The Royal Navy's pursuit and subsequent destruction of the Bismarck was an epic of naval warfare. In this new account of those dramatic events at the height of the Second World War, Iain Ballantyne draws extensively on the graphic eyewitness testimony of veterans to construct a thrilling story, mainly from the point of view of the British battleships, cruisers, and destroyers involved.

The predominant image of this first world war is of mud and trenches, barbed wire, machine guns, poison gas, and slaughter. A generation of European manhood was massacred, and a wound was inflicted on European civilization that required the remainder of the twentieth century to heal.

A fantastic read for the WW1 Naval Buff
Revisado: 03-01-23
A great read for the WW1 naval buff. WW1 is often shelved behind the WW2 especially the naval history but this book brings to life the rich naval history of WW1, the geopolitical background the powered it all as well as a great mix of the human interest on both sides. I didnt feel this was too long at all, i thought very appropriate especially for an audiobook.

Historia
Twilight of the Gods is a riveting account of the harrowing last year of World War II in the Pacific, when the US Navy won the largest naval battle in history; MacArthur made good his pledge to return to the Philippines; waves of kamikazes attacked the Allied fleets; the Japanese fought to the last man on one island after another; B-29 bombers burned down Japanese cities; and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were vaporized. Toll's narratives of combat in the air, at sea, and on the beaches are gripping, but he also takes the listener into the halls of power in Washington and Tokyo.

Historia
Surigao Strait in the Philippine Islands was the scene of a major battleship duel during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Because the battle was fought at night and had few survivors on the Japanese side, the events of that naval engagement have been passed down in garbled accounts. Anthony P. Tully pulls together all of the existing documentary material, including newly discovered accounts and a careful analysis of U.S. Navy action reports, to create a new and more detailed description of the action.

Great book. Narrator SUCKS
Revisado: 09-18-22
If you were going to read a book a loud describing the real life events of us and Japanese sailors fighting for their lives and country would you not have the decency and respect to At least do a little research to make sure you can pronounce their names right?! Pronounce the name of place (that thousands of people gave their lives fighting) right. This narrator clearly has no interest in doing so and did this fine work a disservice by butchering the names of war heroes, places and men. The book is fantastic the narrator should stick to the box car series however.
