Wisdom and Humor - don’t miss it!
Revisado: 04-22-21
If you are looking for a totally weird, hilarious, touching and thought provoking book to listen to: here it is!
This is Jenny’s third book and although the others were absolutely delightful and I love them, this is her best so far.
She explains her experiences with anxiety and depression in a way that is so real and relatable, and then she has you about ready to pee yourself with laughter in the next chapter.
Thank you Jenny for sharing this enchanting masterpiece with us!

Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Gripping from start to finish
Revisado: 01-31-20
Her best book yet. The story spoke to me on many levels and the performance was one of the best I have encountered (as a 15+ year listener). I have already recommended it to others.

Historia
Back in the 1960s, 10-year-old Sassy lived a cloistered life with her family in an old broken down school bus, hidden back off the dirt roads, nestled deep in the Ozark Mountains. When their mama falls seriously ill, she and her siblings set out on foot to find their father to bring him home. Days later they end up in the small mountainside town of Whisper Ridge, where a host of colorful characters band together to try to help them. However, not knowing their parents by any name other than Mama and Daddy presents quite a problem with the search.

Excellent story, keeps surprising
Revisado: 01-16-20
One of my favorite things about this book is its non- formulaic nature. The story is great and gripping and you can never tell which way it’s going to turn. The narrator has an authentic Ozark voice, but the performance was not quite as tightly edited as the majority of books on Audible.

Historia
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Quirky and delightful story of transformation
Revisado: 10-11-19
On a par with A Man Called Uve and A Memory of Running, with some similarities to A Confederacy of Dunces. Well developed characters, excellent plot, and a surprise ending. McCarron is able to switch seamlessly from humor to pathos to tragedy and back again. I will be buying the print version for my mother.

Historia
At the turn of the 20th century, in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a reclusive orchardist, William Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots as if they were loved ones. A gentle man, he's found solace in the sweetness of the fruit he grows and the quiet, beating heart of the land he cultivates. One day, two teenage girls appear and steal his fruit from the market; they later return to the outskirts of his orchard to see the man who gave them no chase. Feral, scared, and very pregnant, the girls take up on Talmadge's land and indulge in his deep reservoir of compassion.

One of my all time favorites
Revisado: 02-06-18
Overall story, narration and production are just excellent. Several characters with limited, deprived childhoods come together as chosen family, and it’s beautifully described. I’ve been an Audible member for close to 15 years at 2 books per month and this goes into my top ten list.

This had been recommended by numerous sources so I was really looking forward to it. However, I was about 2/3 of the way through it before it grabbed me. I do plan to listen to the others now.
