Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was awesome! It was such a fascinating story line and I really enjoyed all the characters. It was so fun to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't necessarily have a favorite character, I think they all worked together really well.

Which character – as performed by Michael L. Canaan – was your favorite?

Sarge, I think this voice he did was fantastic!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the scenes with the piss packs, they had me rolling!

Great book, great voices, excellent job by the narrator bringing this book to life!

Historical Figures Brought to Life!

What did you love best about Long Road to Hard Truth?

I really enjoyed the narrator's impressions of the historical figures mentioned in the book. This really helped the story to come to life for me and it made the book extremely intriguing from a historical perspective. I enjoyed learning the history of the museum!

What did you like best about this story?

The attention to detail and the way the author put everything together. It was very easy to follow and his passion for the museum was apparent.

Have you listened to any of Michael Canaan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I believe this is the third book I've listened to by Mr. Canaan. I like the smoothness of his voice and the way the words resonate. I've listened to books from other narrators in the past where it sounds like they are merely being read. When Mr. Canaan reads a book, it truly sounds like he believes in the work and he enjoys what he is reading, so it never sounds like he is sitting there reading to you. It sounds like he is telling a story. I believe this is a sign of an excellent narrator/voice artist.

Any additional comments?

I thought the narration was spot on, I couldn't ask for better. The quality is top of the line, I hope to hear more from Mr. Canaan very soon!

I thought the writing was excellent as well. I am saddened however to hear that the full history of African American Culture is not properly represented at the museum. The history of an entire people should be represented there, not just one political side or the other. That's neither here nor there though.

Overall, I do recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about African American history or this museum.

And definitely, go seek out other works by this narrator, he has such a nice voice!

Sweet Romance, Perfect Year Round

Would you consider the audio edition of The Christmas Bargain to be better than the print version?

I loved the audio version of this book! I thought that the narrator really brought the characters to life and it was so neat how he was able to give a completely different voice to each of the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Just as the story was written, Philly was my favorite. I loved "seeing" her blossom into a beautiful woman and it was very clear that her ability to come out of her shell was because of the safety, security and love of Luke. A good man will do that for a woman (not saying she necessarily "needs" that, but we're not going there for this review).

Which character – as performed by Michael L. Canaan – was your favorite?

My favorite character as performed by Mr. Canaan was definitely Luke. His smooth, deep voice really brought Luke Granger to life and enabled me to really get a sense that he was a true gentleman, something that is lacking in so many romance novels these days.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love Overcomes All. Shanna Hatfield did a wonderful job writing this book and I enjoy completing the remainder of the series as soon as it is available! Thank the Lord for audio books, I just don't have time to sit down and actually read anymore!

I was reading through some of the other reviews and noticed one written by a particularly harsh critic who actually said she deducted a star because a dog died in this book. She also spoke very negatively of the narrator, citing his inability to do a female voice "at all" she said. I have to completely disagree with this. First, it's really quite silly to take off the rating because a fictional dog died. I can understand loving animals, but I've listened to books in the past where far worse have happened to humans, and I didn't deduct from the rating because of that. This was not a true story and if it were, it's not the authors fault that the dog died.

As for the narration job done by Mr. Michael Canaan, I can't for a moment fathom what it takes to do this sort of thing for a living. I have total respect for anyone who does narration and voice-over work. One of my all time favorites ever was the late Robin Williams. Have you ever noticed that even his female voices weren't believable? A man is simply not built to pass as a believable woman and a woman is not built to pass as a believable man! When these people read audio books for us, the goal is for them to do the best job that they can, so that we are able to distinguish whether it's a male or female character, and not be offensive or off-putting at the same time. You get someone like Mr. Canaan who has such a smooth deep voice, and to think that he's going to come out sounding like Julia Roberts is just absurd! I think that it's sad that this book's reviews have been negatively affected by this. I've listened to nearly a month of time collectively in audio books, so I feel like I have a really good idea of what a good narrator sounds like, and Mr. Canaan is an excellent storyteller and narrator!

Love the strong, confident country girl!

This book was so enjoyable to listen to! The narrator's smooth voice made the characters come alive! I loved how the main character was a strong and confident country girl who was self-assured and not taking any bull from her piece of trash ex! Although Jake pretty much fell head over heels at first sight (reminding me of my own husband!) he treated her with respect! I thought the writing was very good, I could picture the entire book as it unfolded like a movie in my head. It was really enjoyable to listen to and I would recommend it to everyone!

I absolutely loved this book! The story was immediately mesmerizing and the narrator was engaging with her different voices. I loved the story line and cannot wait to start book 2!
