Historia
Maud Demille is a daughter of Innkeepers—a special group who provide ‘lodging’ to other-planetary visitors—so she knows that a simple life isn't in the cards. But even Maud could never have anticipated what Fate would throw at her. Once a wife to a powerful vampire knight, Maud and her young daughter, Helen, were exiled with him for his treachery to the desolate, savage planet of Karhari. Karhari killed her husband, and Maud—completely abandoned by his family—has spent over a year avenging his debts. Rescued by her sister Dina, she's sworn off all things vampire.

Great story; so-so narration
Revisado: 04-06-23
I loved this story - it's one of my favorites by Ilona Andrews. However, I was put off a bit by the narration. Maud sometimes has a Texas/southern accent; sometimes it's almost British; and sometimes it's vaguely Irish. Not sure why the accent changed - was the narrator using the British accent to show that Maud was speaking in vampire maybe? I don't know but it wasn't necessary. You knew when Maud was speaking. That's my only quibble with this Graphic Audio version.
I still loved, loved, LOVED the story and will try another of this author's Graphic Audios.

Dreadful narrator
Revisado: 09-27-21
1) The narrator was just TERRIBLE.I will avoid any future books with her as a narrator because her accents took me away from the story. Her accents were horrible - the hero was supposed to be Scottish, but the accent was like a bad cross between Scottish/English/South African/I don't know WHAT else. Fenella was a secondary character - every time the narrator used her name, it sound like Vanilla. Also, the accent she used for Fenella was so high-pitched and screechy, I thought the character was like 6 years old, instead of an adult. The heroine's best friend (who's pretty horrible) had an accident that was supposed to be Australian. Not sure what accen the narrator was going for, but Australian wasn't it. South African/Irish/ who the heck knows. This narrator, however, did make me realize how poorly this was written, which leads me to...
2) The author - KA used "queried" 15 times. "Queried", I say again. Yes, I counted the number of times for you - you're welcome. I went to school and lived in England, and I think I heard that used once. When you read something, instead of listening to it, your brain allows you to move past the overuse of particular words/phrases, and enjoy the plot. But hearing it? Not so much. The other words/phrases that are used ad infinitum: lip tips, chin tips, lip touches, etc. There are so many.
I realize this is typical of this author and I've enjoyed some of her books in the past, but when you listen to them? It really drives home the fact that she desperately needs an editor with a red pen. And a thesaurus.

I enjoyed these stories, but the narrator is so awful, it was hard to listen at times. Too bad because these were fun, spanky novels.

Awful narrator
Revisado: 11-25-19
I really struggled to finish this one. The narrator is absolutely awful, mispronouncing words and reading in such a breathless voice, I wasn't sure I could stand to finish listening. The story was alright, but I won't listen to any of Ms. Joseph's books if they're narrated by Emma Kent.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

Historia
I spent 20 years waiting for Trent Hennington to open his eyes and see me. But it was all for nothing. He chose to keep himself guarded and let me walk away, proving that my time and efforts were wasted. I’m done being invisible. It’s time to move on. A single dance sets my new reality into motion, and I welcome it. After all, Cooper Townsend is perfect. He’s kind, sexy, and attentive - everything a girl could want. I thought I got it right this time. That my heart could mend, and I would be happy. Apparently, some things really are just too hard to walk away from.

Love the narrators - hated the stories

While I love Andi Arndt & Sebastian York as narrators, I didn't enjoy any of the 3 stories. In fact, I ended up fast-forwardeing through all of them. What a disappointment.

Historia
A new standalone novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author, Vi Keeland. The night I met Drew Jagger, he'd just broken into my new Park Avenue office. I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills. He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing. Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant. Only, turned out, he wasn't an intruder at all. Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He'd been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.

Love the story - the narrators? Not so much.
Revisado: 03-23-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Cherise Sinclair is an auto-buy for me but you have to be willing to listen to narrators who don't add anything to the story.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross ’s performances?
I really don't care for these narrators. I don't know which is the male narrator, but the voices he uses for the characters are AWFUL. His accent as Xavier, makes this character sound like a bad actor playing Dracula.

Most debutantes dream of finding husbands. Lady Pandora Ravenel has different plans. But one night at a glittering society ball, she's ensnared in a scandal with a wickedly handsome stranger.

wonderfully narrated historical romance
Revisado: 03-23-17
Where does Devil in Spring rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of my favorite historical romances.
What does Mary Jane Wells bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ms. Wells is a terrific narrator. She uses her voice to great effect, with each character having their own individual accent, so that you always know who is speaking.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend this to any one who loves a great historical romance, read by a terrific narrator.
