Historia
The Earl of St. Merryn needs a woman. His intentions are purely practical - he simply wants someone sensible and suitably lovely to pose as his betrothed for a few weeks among polite society. He has his own agenda to pursue, and a false fiancée will keep the husband-hunters at bay while he goes about his business. The simplest solution is to hire a paid companion. Finding the right candidate proves more of a challenge than he expected.

Good story, but…
Revisado: 12-22-22
The he story line was really predictable. Liked the mystery aspect to it, but of course you knew how it was going to end.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Real lives told
Revisado: 08-30-19
I appreciated this book and the journey of the author. This is the messy truth and not the glorified history of a war won. The toll on those men and their families is beyond what I have ever understood. To think that medical science could not help and no one talked about it. One more reason I am grateful that the stigma of receiving mental health services is decreasing. I admire the dedication and personal insight of the author and the other individuals in this book.

I liked it, but...
Revisado: 10-11-18
This has to do with my reading preferences. I think Gabrielle Union is a brave, amazing women. I would have never known that if I would not have read a good portion of this book. She starts it off stating that she likes to cuss. She is upfront. I didn't take her at her word; my mistake. It was very interesting to see the two sides of her personality depicted as she is in CA and NE. I departed with her at her moving from partner to partner without thoughtfulness. I really wish books on here had a ratings system. She is very honest in the telling of her story and she owns it.

Historia
To the costermongers of Covent Garden Eddie Pettit was a gentle soul with a gift for working with horses. When Eddie is killed in a violent accident, the grieving costers are skeptical about the cause of his death. Who would want to kill Eddie - and why? Maisie Dobbs' father, Frankie, had been a costermonger, so she had known the men since childhood. She remembers Eddie fondly and is determined to offer her help. But it soon becomes clear that powerful political and financial forces are equally determined to prevent her from learning the truth behind Eddie's death.

A must read!
Revisado: 02-25-15
If you could sum up Unfortunate Importance of Beauty in three words, what would they be?
insightful, thought-provoking, beautiful
What other book might you compare Unfortunate Importance of Beauty to and why?
I have never read a book like it. It is unique just like it's characters. It has a genera formula for problem, love, solution, but the story is not like one I have read before.
What does Christina Delaine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A gentleness to Lilly's character and depth of feeling to the others in the group.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
After the first hour, yes. It took me a bit to get through the history.
Any additional comments?
To me the identity of the 'murder' was predicable, but the story behind it was not. I would have liked to know what kay stood for.

Wonderful
Revisado: 09-29-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you have liked the past books in this series, this is one of the best. Loved the plot and I thought I had nailed down the murder and happily, I got it wrong. I wish Darcey and Georgie would be able to marry. Such a downer in the story line. I wish they worked for SY as a team.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Georgie: Strong, Intelligent, Moral, Kind. Great character.
What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Loved here different accents and how she gives the story the correct pace.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no.
Any additional comments?
Please keep them coming. Look forward to the next book
