Historia
After being expelled from a young ladies’ academy, a disgraced Miss Arabella Jardine is whisked away to the Continent until the controversy in London subsides. However, it doesn’t take long for Arabella to shock her family all over again when an encounter in Switzerland with the irresistible rakehell-in-exile Earl of Langdale leads to a compromising situation. Despite his wicked reputation, Lord Langdale is the sort of man she has dreamed of marrying.

Melodramatic
Revisado: 11-15-24
The voice of the male character was so melodramatic at times that I laughed. Only continued to listen because I have listened to others in the series and am intrigued by the female characters.

Historia
A cruel past left Hannah Gray with one simple longing - normalcy. Normal ladies ride and waltz without fear. They have safe, normal husbands to give them safe, normal kisses. After years of healing, she's ready to find "normal" for herself, and Lady Wallingham's house party is the perfect place to begin. Perfect, that is, except for the cynical wolf-in-rogue's-clothing whose every hungry glance threatens to crack her armor and pierce her fragile heart.

Narrator is too melodramatic
Revisado: 01-18-24
Couldn’t listen beyond a few minutes as the narrator was much too melodramatic. I’ve listened to other books with the same narrator but just could not persevere this time.

Historia
Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents - or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage, the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Clean romance
Revisado: 08-06-23
Have to agree with other reviewers about the narration. This certainly isn’t the first book that I’ve listened to where the narrator’s voice takes some getting used to, but I never got past the foppish, whiny voice of the hero or the little girlish voice of Felicity. I won’t be able to listen to the follow up book for that alone.

Historia
Surely the daughter of a viscount, even an impoverished one, ought to be able to live, just a little? But her father, Viscount Rennard, is a violent man, and one who is hard to thwart as he harshly restricts Keziah's society. When Keziah learns of her father's plans to marry the recently widowed and fabulously wealthy duchess of Chartley, it doesn't take the lovely Miss Todd long to realize that the woman's only son, Felix - the new duke of Chartley - is an inconvenience that her father will remove with haste.

Light regency mystery/romance
Revisado: 06-22-23
I gave this 3 stars as either a portion of the story didn’t download on Audible (I actually went back multiple chapters to re-listen in the event that I somehow missed some critical chapters), the information was edited out or the author took a giant leap and hoped the readers would catch on. The story is light enough that I made the assumptions, but would have enjoyed listening to a pretty significant part of the story.

It’s spring and Three Pines is reemerging after the harsh winter. But not everything buried should come alive again. Not everything lying dormant should reemerge. But something has. A young man and woman have reappeared in the Sûreté du Québec investigators’ lives after many years. The two were young children when their troubled mother was murdered, leaving them damaged, shattered. Now they’ve arrived in the village of Three Pines. But to what end?

Riveting
Revisado: 12-12-22
Complex and riveting. The worst part of reading or listening to one of Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache books, is that when I finish, I know I’ll have to wait a year for the next. Woe is the day that Ms. Penny puts Armand and company to rest.

Frustrated
Revisado: 12-04-22
After being hooked in and listening to all 3 books - bit of a love/repulsed relationship with the characters, I still don’t know for certain what the great ‘secret’ is! Was certain it would be finally revealed by the end of this book.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

How have I lived this long without reading this
Revisado: 08-24-22
I have to start by saying I’ve been in a Jane Austin binge over the past few weeks, listening to all of her books and watching most of not all, of the movie adaptations. When I first began listening to Middlemarch, I found my mind wandering and having to hit replay frequently. Once I realized this was essentially a soap opera of a place in time, I was hooked (and grateful my husband was out of town for work) as I listened to endlessly. I was frequently amazed at the progressive insights (maybe that’s my ignorance) that Elliot made and often replayed portions as the comment was pertinent to life today - at one point I recall thinking that things never change. Middlemarch was a piece of work that I’m sad to have finished, and has now been added to one of my favorite pieces of literature.

Historia
Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Heartbreakingly beautiful
Revisado: 09-17-21
Listening to this book brought me to tears, made me laugh out loud, infuriated me at times, terrified me. What can I say - I loved this stunning book and listening to an Irish voice narrate it was perfection.
