Great character development and growth! Low on Sanderson world building, high on Cosmere reveals.
Revisado: 01-04-25
Dalinar, Adolin, and Kaladin are 'storming' heroes!! Amazing finale!!Unfortunately, we may have to wait years to see Jasnah's, Shallan's, and Navani's arcs reach the same incredible heights. Flaw: too much of the story occurs in a dream world, where what is happening is nebulously 'not real.' Final comment... "WIT!!!!" ;)

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

What?... I don't get it.
Revisado: 03-18-23
Warning: this book is a foray into the overly self-aware, tongue-in-cheek, parody fantasy genre. If you expect anything 'Epic,' insightful, or inspiring, you're in the wrong place. This book is Robert Asprin, Piers Anthony, and/or Douglas Adams; it is not Brandon Sanderson, Ursula K. LeGuin, and/or J.R.R. Tolkien.
Why am I then eager to read a sequel to something I found somewhat insipid and with the worst transitions between scenes I have ever read...? Terry Pratchett has done some brilliant work, but this is not it. Instead, this is patchy, abondoning characters and sideplots as if seeking novelty for novelty's sake. However, still worth reading just to meet these iconic characters! (just don't expect them to develop)

When the great red star Calamity appeared in the sky, some believed the end had come. They were right. Calamity created the Epics: humans with incredible powers they didn't deserve. They could have saved mankind. They could have lifted us into harmony and prosperity. Instead they burned. They slaughtered. They conquered. And then they ruled. Jax has learned all of this the hard way. Orphaned at an early age, he's spent most of his childhood training to be a Reckoner - determined to find the Epics' weaknesses, unlock their secrets, and protect those of us who are still left.

Great characters! Slightly darker than original reckoners. Longer and more complex, as well. Amazing superhero abilities and world-building. Some technology requires active suspension of disbelief.

Fasten your falx knives and grab the reins of your quadriga: Rivals 2! More Frenemies Who Changed the World is the funniest look at people who benefited the world through their hatred. This audiobook has it all: death beams, chariot races, flaming costumes, ear-munchers, party fleas, and whatever the opposite of epic poetry is.... No fact is too bizarre, no segue too surreal, and no sequitur is too non for this riotous sequel.

Somehow more characaturing than the first installment. Perhaps missing the punchlines of the final reveal that explains why the world is the way it is. Still recommend as a very interesting history lesson.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....
