Great story but the author shouldn’t narrate
Revisado: 07-20-24
Great story and character development, and Erin Bennet’s narration was fantastic. But the author’s narration of the last chapter hurt my ears. Her voice is so nasal that it was painful to listen to. Spoiled the experience for me.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

Meh
Revisado: 08-06-18
Meh. Dark, dreary, and ultimately disappointing. Cardboard characters, Hitchcockian tropes, and a convoluted plot made this a just bearable listen.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Amazing, touchinig, brilliant
Revisado: 04-03-10
I just finished this book and was so sad that it ended. I wanted it to go on and continue to follow these characters' lives.
The book is extremely well written, the characters are fully realized and the story is narrated by four very talented actresses. I almost want to tell people not to read the book but listen to it. The life these women bring to each character made experiencing "The Help" all the more fulfilling.

A "strain" indeed
Revisado: 08-15-08
A tiresome read. I had high hopes for this book but they were dashed by a convoluted and implausible plot, poorly drawn characters and tedious repetition.
A strain on plausibility, a strain on my ear and a ultimatley a strain on my nerves. I should have learned my lesson after "Black Order"...
