Historia
An air of pleasant anticipation hung so thickly over the Halls, Holds, and Weyrs of Pern that it had affected even the businesslike ways of Moreta, the Weyrwoman of Fort Weyr. Her dragon, Queen Orlith, would soon clutch; spring had made a glorious debut; the Gather at Ruatha Hold was extremely merry; and Moreta was enjoying the attentions of Alessan, the new Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold. Then, without warning, a runnerbeast fell ill.

Possibly the worst narration I have ever heard.
Revisado: 05-13-20
I'm not very fussy on narration, but this was just AWFUL. I have read this book before, and loved it. I thought I would get it in audio, since that's all I do now. It is almost unbearable. I had to slow it down, and that is somewhat unpleasant too. How do people ever allow this to happen???

Historia
Love thy neighbor, 'tis said. A fine idea, except when the neighbor in question is Lord Holden. Lady Helen Tiernay has complained frequently about his treatment of his people. Too frequently perhaps, for the king intends to curb their constant bickering by ordering them to wed. Helen can't refuse a royal decree, but she'll do everything possible to drive away her devilishly attractive husband-to-be.

Caught in a one-note rut
Revisado: 11-10-18
I use to be a huge Lynsay Sands fan. Then she wrote mostly vampire stories, which are boring after awhile. So, I was thrilled to see a historical novel from her. Her old ones made me laugh, which is a big plus in keeping romance novels interesting. This one was funny at first, but the same joke is repeated over and over and OVER until I just couldn't listen anymore. I frankly couldn't care less if these two people ever get together. Returning unfinished. Ugh. I think Lynsay is tired of writing, frankly.

But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. There's no one to like in this dreary mess.
Revisado: 06-14-18
I don't know if I can finish this book. I'm pretty certain I'm returning it, unless it makes a MAJOR turnaround. There is no one to like, even a little bit. Maybe in the first 3 minutes, but those people all died in the first 5 minutes. If you like bad behavior by everyone, torture of innocent people, etc, this is the book for you. I keep hoping the sci-fi stuff will kick back in, but so far, this book is AWFUL. Too bad, because the story premise is decent. There are so many good reviews that I'm trying to slog through it. I feel depressed every time I stop listening. Who needs that.

What disappointed you about Curse?
After two great books, this one switched to first person.
Any additional comments?
I may return this book. I'll see if I can slog through it. I HATE first person!!! The first two books in the series were third person, so I was shocked to eagerly start the third book, and hear this bunch of "I's", Needed to give a warning to anyone else who detests first person. What POSSIBLE good first person does, I just can't imagine. Very disappointed!!!

Officer Luz is lucky she still has a job after tasering a male colleague where it counts the most. Sure, he had it coming - which is why the police chief is giving Megan a second chance. The catch? Her new partner can't carry a gun, can't drive a cruiser, and can't recite the Miranda Rights. Because her new partner is a big furry police dog. So that's what the chief meant when he called Megan's partner a real bitch...With Brigit out on the beat, Megan is writing up enough tickets to wallpaper the whole station.

Mostly a great dog book, except for bad guy
Revisado: 10-07-16
What does Coleen Marlo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Excellent narration and emphasis. Really enjoyed it.
Any additional comments?
OK, I just don't like bad guys. Of course, they have to be there, but I have NO interest in them, what motivates them, anything. This story had its chapters organized such that every chapter was either about Megan, Brigit (the dog) or the bad guy. That made it real easy for me to just skip the chapters about him. It hasn't hurt the story any, and saves me the annoyance of trying to fast forward, and missing pieces, etc. I wish all authors would do this!

Good, but a little repetative
Revisado: 09-26-16

So much monster fighting.... A little more story and less fighting would have been nice. There just was so much repetition in the fight scenes. Not bad, though. I'll try book 2, for sure. Great narration.

Historia
Sixteen years. That's how long Clyde Barr has been away from Colorado's thick forests, alpine deserts, and craggy peaks, running from a past filled with haunting memories. But now he's back, having roamed across three continents as a hunter, an adventurer, a soldier of fortune, and, most recently, an unjustly imprisoned convict. And once again his past is reaching out to claim him. Clyde receives a phone call for help from Jen, youngest of his three older sisters. Then the line goes dead.

Not MY Jack Reacher!!!!!
Revisado: 09-07-16
Any additional comments?
What a HUGE disappointment. I bought this because of my great love of the Jack Reacher stories. But imagine this... Jack Reacher is involved with a lot of drug people, smokes, and is sort of a creep (although maybe he gets better). That's Clyde Barr. I could not keep listening. Beware. If you don't like reading about junkies, this may not be the book for you. The world may be full of that crap, but I'm not going to spend my time reading about it. This is the third book in a row I want to return, but don't feel it's fair. I was on such a good role too.

Not enough dog action
Revisado: 08-28-16
Any additional comments?
When I buy books with dogs in them, it's really all about the dog. I suckered into this book because of the cover, and am half way through it. The story is decent enough, but the dog has been really a bit player. I'm having a hard time slogging through it, and may not finish. I would give ANYTHING to find another book like Dean Koontz's Watchers. Dogs rule.

I love science fiction, but so much of it is the same. This story was different, and not an "alien invasion" clone of Independence day. I wish there was more thoughtful SciFi like this. And, what can be bad about dolphins?

Why isn't the sequel in Audible???
Revisado: 02-01-16
Any additional comments?
This was an absolutely great book. At Amazon, you can see that there is a sequel, which is getting rave reviews, and said to be better than this one. Where is it??? I never read books anymore. There is just too much to do to sit and keep your eyes focused on a piece of paper. Audiobooks rule.
