Can't wait for the next one!
Revisado: 05-28-20
I am really loving this series. This is book 4 of the Magical Market Mysteries and it starts with a murder at the Museum of Magical Artifacts. Jolene, a shifter who's been cursed, can talk to animals as a by-product. She helps Peter, a cop, by using her "gift" on witnesses, whether they be insects, sea creatures or other animals. The museum has a mouse problem, so Peter asks Jolene to interview the mouse witness who proves to be elusive. During the visit, Daisy, the uppity lie-sniffing dog gets spooked by the Cursed Objects on display. Even though she and Jolene have a contentious relationship (Daisy knows Jolene is keeping secrets from Peter), Jolene can't let Daisy be nervous and makes her feel better. As they try to track down the killer, Peter and Jolene seem to get closer when he asks Jolene over to his home. Sadly, he wants Jolene to translate for him and Daisy, although there seems to be some subtext, too. The killer is found but there may be trouble in paradise for Jolene and Peter. Now, I have to run off and read the next one, Pig Little Lies, to find out what happens next.

Lies are catching up with Jolene
Revisado: 05-09-20
Did I say I love these books? Shell yes, I did. Jolene and Peter are off to the policeman's ball in this book and it's a date. Thank goodness, it's a masquerade, because Jolene runs into her former fiance, former boss, and the 'beach' her cursed her. The winner of the policeman's award of the year never makes it to the podium to accept because he's being fished out of the sea. Jolene and Peter start to investigate but run into trouble with their relationship (personal and professional) because she is lying about a number of things which, Daisy, the lie-sniffing dog continues to rat her out. Speaking of rats, Ludoff (sp?) the head shifter has finally gotten wind of Jolene working with the police and threatens Peter if she doesn't help him. What will she do? Is it time to come clean with Peter? You'll have to listen to it to find out. I can't wait to read #4.

Pet psychic Jolene needs some excitement to keep her mind off her downward spiral. So, when her dreamy police crush asks her to interview a massive eight-legged murder witness, the former shifter signs on, despite the risks. With an enchanted sweatshop owner and a testy trendsetter both dying from the same venom, Jolene fears their crafty assassin has spun a complex web. Following the officer and his lie-sniffing German shepherd into a labyrinth of clues, she cuts through a suspect list full of jealous rivals and bitter enemies.

Another hit
Revisado: 05-09-20
Another great book in the Magic Market Mysteries. This time Peter asks Jolene to interview a giant spider that is a familiar to a witch. A witch that's dead from spider venom. It looks like an open and shut case at first but the spider reminds Jolene, if her witch dies, so does the spider. These books are great fun and Jolene and Peter are getting a little closer. Too bad she holding back some pretty big secrets. Off to the next book in this series. Hearing the voices the narrator makes for animals and insects is hilarious too.

Historia
Cursed and almost powerless, Jolene’s definitely down on her magical luck. Forced to disguise her taboo shifter abilities, she barely makes ends meet by working as a pretend pet psychic. So she eagerly says, "Oui," to a job securing testimony from a parakeet that watched a woman’s fatal fall. Teaming up with a true blue police officer and his lie-sniffing German Shepherd, Jolene works hard to hunt down suspects. But with an after-hours affair, a disgruntled neighbor, and risqué photos all seemingly connected to the crime, untangling the truth is bound to get hairy.

Cute and funny
Revisado: 05-09-20
I loved this first book in the Magic Market Series on the island of Bijou Mer where we meet Jolene, a down and out shifter whose been cursed by a former colleague. The curse took away her magic and outed her as an owl shifter. She lost her job as a lawyer, her fiance, and her life as she knew it all in one fell swoop. During a fake reading as an animal psychic and desperate to pay rent to her Dragon landlord in the Dark Moon District, she agrees to help a cop with his K-9 partner. It turns out the curse took everything but gave her the ability to communicate with all animals and insects which she disguises as being psychic. Peter, nice guy that he is, hires her to "read the mind" of a bird witness to a murder across the street. Thus begins Jolene's new job as a police consultant, now if only the shifter community that is described like the mob doesn't find out. The author's vocabulary of curse words is hilarious. Trust me, you will have shell of a time.

Was this supposed to be romance? Very depressing!
Revisado: 03-29-18
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this unless they were looking for depressing historical fiction.
Would you be willing to try another book from Emily Murdoch? Why or why not?
I have tried other books and liked them.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Fitz woke up from his illness.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Possibly - since I now know what it was about and I love historical movies.
Any additional comments?
Maybe I missed something as I thought Emily was a romance author because this only had a little romance that was completely destroyed later in the book. It was absolutely horrible and I ended up hating Fitz (he really turned out to be ridiculous). This book was well written as historical fiction and really presented a lot of the history that seemed to be fairly accurate in its grimness for the time period. Maybe I made a mistake thinking there would be some romance which is the only reason I gave it 3 stars. A horrible story in my mind, but well written.

Cordelia Honeyfield has been sent to the seaside "for her health" - and the last thing she wants is the meddling nonsense of a country doctor. Her wild spirit is frowned upon by the town, and familial embarrassment now means she's stuck at the beach in a brisk March wind, waiting to meet this doctor as she promised her father. Dr. Timothy Walsingham is about to meet a new elderly patient - a Miss Honeyfield whose letters have had him in stitches. As he waits by the sand, a beautiful woman catches his eye.

Great 2 Hour Story
Revisado: 03-15-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, because it was a quick and entertaining read.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved that Timothy and Cordelia were spending time together each waiting to meet the other and not realizing it.
Which character – as performed by Virginia Ferguson – was your favorite?
She performed both Cordelia and Timothy well, but I would go with Cordelia because women perform women voices better.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
My favorite part was when they each realized they felt "strange" around each, not realizing yet what they were feeling just before the truth of their identities came out.

Nice heroine, not so nice hero
Revisado: 01-18-18
What did you like best about A June Wedding? What did you like least?
*Spoiler Alert * I had a hard time with this book. It was very well written and I liked Victoria, however, I could not like Isaac at all! I understand the rules put on people of the ton and possibly Isaac's reasons for telling Victoria he cannot marry her. What I cannot abide is him telling her this immediately after kissing her. Then, some time passes, it is very close to his marriage to a wealthy young lady and he starts romancing Victoria again. There is no other word for it and I found him despicable, especially after the way he treats her the night before his wedding to another. There is a happy ending, but since I disliked the hero so much I could not be happy. Now, none of this reflects on the author because she writes well and just because I didn't care for her character does not mean it wasn't a good story overall.
What other book might you compare A June Wedding to and why?
I would compare this to a lot of the older regency books. They had just one problem facing them and it was resolved. It was a short story, so there wasn't really time for more than one problem.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Virginia Ferguson?
If it was another book that I wanted to read, then yes. I would not look for books narrated by her in general because her female voices all sounded so similar, that sometimes I wasn't sure who was speaking.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I would not see this at the theater, but if it were a television movie I would watch it.

Excellent Scottish Mystery
Revisado: 01-14-18
What did you love best about Edinburgh Twilight?
I loved everything about this book, the characters (especially Ian, the Chief Inspector, Dickerson, Lillian, and Derek). It was a great story that kept you guessing trying to figure it out right along with Ian. I have been to Edinburgh a couple of times and listening to the book allowed me to picture a number of the streets and locale right along with the characters. I hope hope hope there will be more!! I purchased the paperback after listening, so I could revisit it with actual paper in hand.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Edinburgh Twilight?
The whole book was great, but it was an excellent ending.
Which character – as performed by Napoleon Ryan – was your favorite?
Ian Hamilton although he did an excellent job with all of the characters including the evil one. I'm am sorry to do this comparison, but he sounds like Richard Armitage only with a deeper richer voice. I started looking for more books narrated by Napoleon Ryan after listening to his wonderful voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not too many extreme reactions, although I did let out a bark of laughter a couple of times when the Chief Inspector was yelling at his men. I could tell right away he was a teddy bear inside even before he let us know that and I thought it was funny.
Any additional comments?
Please more Carole Lawrence and Ian Hamilton and crew.

If you could sum up Complicated in three words, what would they be?
Wonderful Family Love
What was one of the most memorable moments of Complicated?
There are too many great moments in this book. Hicks' blue roses, any scene with his awesome kids, the wedding proposal continuing the theme, Hicks handling everything even though he was stupid in the very beginning
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This was a huge problem for me and only the content of the book kept me going. I loved the idea of a female and male narrator and honestly, it is what made me pick the book. However, why would you have two narrators and each read chapters instead of having the female read female voices and the male read male voices? Each narrator was great when each was reading their gender's character, but Lance did terrible women voices only to have Erin do even worse men's voices. I had so hoped this would be like listening to a movie instead I had to struggle at times to figure out which character was speaking and started focusing on how terrible the opposite gender voices were in this book. It could have been phenomenal if Lance had done all male and Erin all female voices.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Small-town Sheriff, Hairdresser/Dew Drop singer, Crazy Ex-wife
