ask a local
Revisado: 03-28-25
A solid post EMP-ocolyptic story that could have been convered with a few less books. Another thing people don't realize is that Missouri has an earthquake area called the New Madrid fault line. If you're from Missouri you know how to pronounce that the "mizzurah" way. The story should have told the narrator how to pronounce Fort Leonardwood like a local and not like introducing a guy named Leonard Wood. Took me out of the story every time as an escaped ex-Missourian.

this was an entertaining book, but predictable enough that I made a note when I figured out the "bad guy" in chapter 18.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

good story with predictable action
Revisado: 08-25-23
I actually got this without knowing about the tv show, and now I'm thinking I'll pass on it. My biggest disappointment was that as soon as it was suggested one wolf would be captured, I knew who it would be. Can we ever end this "Lady in distress needs men to save her" trope?

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

Historia
"The Suck" - the virus that claimed 97 percent of humanity - is gone. The arrival of other survivors with a different take on the future may be as dangerous as the virus itself. In the middle, with their hands on the scales, is a group of former soldiers and civilians who survived the virus in Antarctica. They’ve arrived to find a dead world, with no rules. The best-selling story of Jason, Pro, and Rachel continues where End of Summer, book one of the Seasons of Man series, left off.

I am so sad that I bought this book. Liberal college professors use torture techniques to create "utopia" while old military men point out their recklessness. Holy crap.

just a copy of Watchmen
Revisado: 01-06-23
Had this book come out before the popular HBO series Watchman, this might not have bothered me as much. The first book I read on Kindle in about 4 hours after reading the terrible reviews of the first narrator (also the author), so I took a chance with the second book perhaps being better. It really wasn't. It's written at a 4th grade reading level with very little mystery in this predictable story. If you're okay with an easy listen without suspense or character development, then you might enjoy this.

a mediocre thriller performed poorly
Revisado: 11-04-22
My expectations weren't terribly high, but as a thriller/horror lover, I thought I'd take a chance. If I weren't short on books I would have given up after the first hour.

Such a mish mash of too many characters and not enough focus. Also the self referential ode to his Jane Hawk series seemed a bit much.
