Once again!
Revisado: 02-28-25
Once again I am thrilled to enjoy another book by Jody Taylor! And the long awaited story of Smallhope and Pennyroyal does not disappoint!
Lady Smallhope’s life at Starlings and Pennyroyal’s list of diplomas are fun and informative. Their adventures are exceptional. And the end of the story promises an opportunity for another short story at the very least!

Still a great read!!!
Revisado: 05-20-23
This is a wonderful story that was written before the precise location of the Titanic was actually discovered. Younger readers of these earlier books of the mastermind of Clive Cussler were written long before our PC era and some terms and conditions must not be judged by today’s standards. It’s an adventure worth indulging in just like his many other novels.

Historia
Just when everything at the Poor Relation Hotel seems to be running smoothly, Sir Philip brings in another poor relation, Mrs. Budge. When Sir Philip presents his paramour, Lady Fortescue swears great oaths and says the woman is probably related to half the costermongers in London and certainly does not possess one rich relative. Mrs. Budge does nothing but eat all day and refused to do any work around the hotel. Worst of all, Miss Tonks seems to be taking the romance between Sir Philip and Mrs. Budge quite hard.

The Poor Relations Hotel run by poor relations of the Aristocracy they serve, are delightful and sneaky when it comes to romance as well as financing their joint venture! Fun and easy to listen to, I heartily recommend this series to anyone not interested in torrid sex and intrigues of your typical “bodice ripper”

Revisado: 08-15-22
Jack, an ex New York City detective, and Sarah, a web designer and single mom, team up in the village of Cherringham to solve mysteries of all sorts in these delightful short stories. The narrator, Neil Dudgeon, is excellent at bringing these wonderfully entertaining tales to life as I imagine the authors, Matthew Costello and Neil Richards, intended. And thank goodness Neil Dudgeon doesn’t give Jack an obnoxious John Wayne or Marlon Brando accent! Perfect in every way but one. The stories can’t come soon enough! Well done, gentlemen. Thank you!

Wonderfully Engaging!
Revisado: 05-21-22
I never really bought into “Happily Ever After” Obviously I’m not the only one! The Princesses lives change but not the way Walt Disney envisioned! Fairies aren’t always good, monsters aren’t always bad and the Princesses lives prior to “Happily Ever After” were a cakewalk compared to what comes next. No timid, meek and mild princesses here!

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

A thoroughly enjoyable read for history buffs and mystery lovers both!
Revisado: 05-30-21
The histories of the Chicago World Fair and that of HH Holmes both told in this book amazed me! Armed with facts gleaned from libraries and archives of many organizations Rick Larson wove together these two stories in a way that made me as excited to see what came next in the World Fair as I was in finding out more about America’s first serial killer. Wonderful read!

Read for pure pleasure!
Revisado: 04-20-21
The characters are wholly believable and interact with each other in a realistic way. Facts are blended with fiction almost seamlessly and the mystery is intriguing. And I appreciated the author’s factual explanation of how women actually obtained powerful positions in this era, how married people were able to take orders and how homosexual/bisexual people survived persecution. The characters and their relationships were very believable and enjoyable. The mystery was perplexing enough to be intriguing. I will be reading much more of this series! Well done!

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

What a Wonderful Surprise!
Revisado: 05-03-19
The printed version of this book was loaned to me by a friend but after the first chapter I knew I had to get it on Audible so I wouldn’t have to put it down to do chores or drive somewhere! Though this kind of novel is not really my thing, the story of abandonment, survival, strength, love and a murder all set in a southern marshland is written with grace and passion and excellence in a way that grips your heart and mind and you may find yourself thinking about “The Marsh Girl” long after you finish the book! I’m definitely adding Delia Owens to my list of authors I like!
