Great story and performance. I loved the connection between the two characters and the story while hard to believe and very short was so emotional. Loved it.

Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Entertaining read with surprising end
Revisado: 04-12-25
Enjoyed this book although sometimes I sometimes found the main character incredibly weak in character. The story was captivating and the ending had some incredible twists which also tugged at my heart. Good listen.

Great love story.

When I heard the preview I was worried that it would be so sad but in reality it is a story of life’s tribulations and sacrifices but also one of integrity and deep love. Well worth the listen. The narrator was excellent.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Inspiring story
Revisado: 04-01-25
Great story of an American hero facing insurmountable odds. If everyone read stories like this they might understand how racism leads to nothing but destruction and suffering needlessly. Sometimes I had to take a break from listening because the torture he endured was so devastating. I don’t know if I could have endured. Wonderful narration.

Historia
Franciszka and her daughter, Helena, are simple, ordinary people until 1939, when the Nazis invade their homeland. Providing shelter to Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland is a death sentence, but Franciszka and Helena do exactly that. In their tiny home in Sokal, they hide a Jewish family in a loft above their pigsty, a Jewish doctor with his wife and son in a makeshift cellar under the kitchen, and a defecting German soldier in the attic - each party completely unknown to the others.

Great story of bravery
Revisado: 03-27-25
Very enjoyable story about doing the right thing in the face of adversity and evil. Reminds me of the story of a Dutch man I knew who was saved along with a second boy from the gas chambers by a Dutch couple who snatched them and kept them safe to grow up to be fine men.

Italy, 1945. "Where am I"? The young man wakes, bewildered. He sees olive trees against a bright blue sky. A soft voice soothes him. "We saw you fall from your plane. The parachute saved you". He remembers nothing of his life, or the war that has torn the world apart...but where does he belong? England, present day. Interesting connection with history

I enjoyed this story which connected the author with her past through the discovery of a postcard. This helped her find clarity with her life and helped her to establish a future.

Great talent
Revisado: 03-25-25
I have always enjoyed Martin Short’s entertainment even though at times it was a bit exaggerated. The story of his life is so interesting although privileged life at times did not reflect the usual climb to fame by most artists. Some of his stories were a bit crass but the love and loss of his beloved wife was very heartfelt. His narration was excellent.

Difficult story to follow
Revisado: 03-09-25
This was a tough listen for several reasons: There were too many characters for them to be well developed and jumping from chapter to chapter in great chunks of time was cumbersome and confusing. I really tried to work through the whole novel but I also found the narrator very monotonous and I would lose interest very easily. Not my favorite from audible.
