Historia
1820: Sophia Ashmore-Percy reluctantly accompanies her husband James to a remote Greek island, where he searches for rare biological specimens. Once there, however, she sets on her own voyage of discovery—stumbling across the very creature he is looking for, making an unexpected connection with a local woman, and ultimately reconsidering her marriage, life, and own desires. Decades later, audiologist Henry Latimer is sent to the home of industrialist Sir Edward Ashmore-Percy and tasked with curing the man’s young daughter, Philomel, of her deafness.

Beautiful
Revisado: 12-29-24
I feel like I finally understand how people must have felt a hundred years ago reading Wilde. Or how people must have taken the Illiad when it was first written. There is poetry in every ounce of this beautiful work.

unexpected
Revisado: 11-30-24
The biggest thing that made the first book so memorable is the huge twist and while this book has less of a twist and more of an unexpected turn, it's still something I'll think about for a while. Wholesome at times and incredibly emotional at others.

It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

Great Storytelling
Revisado: 10-21-24
I absolutely adore these books, I've read all of them at least two or three times. The way they are written you can so cleanly follow the thoughts of our mc without having it annoyingly spelled out every single time and the sarcastic lean to everything just makes me happy.

Arthur Parnassus lives a good life built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six dangerous and magical children who live there. Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. He is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth.

A Lovely End and Beginning
Revisado: 09-27-24
The first book has always been near and dear to me so finally getting to see these characters grow into even more was beautiful. Their fight is one we will be fighting in reality for a long time yet to come but it's empowering to be reminded how powerful a community can be.

Ah Siblings
Revisado: 07-20-24
I adore these books, this whole series was filled with everything I love which makes me feel bad for annoying I found one of the Povs. Caris never seemed to learn that her wants don't come first especially in war and I wanted to bang my head against a wall whenever she spoke. That being said, I still love these books so five stars, Soren is the absolute best and spent the entire book cleaning up after his siblings so I'm so happy with how things went for him.

Historia
The tellers of Greek myths—historically men—have routinely sidelined the female characters. When they do take a larger role, women are often portrayed as monstrous, vengeful or just plain evil—like Pandora, the woman of eternal scorn and damnation whose curiosity is tasked with causing all the world’s suffering and wickedness when she opened that forbidden box. But, as Natalie Haynes reveals, in ancient Greek myths there was no box. It was a jar . . . which is far more likely to tip over.

Such a different vibe from anything I've read from KJ before bit holy shit I am floored. Chef's kisses all around, the character, the mystery, the pun at the end. So. Frickin. Good.

Boring Characters
Revisado: 04-09-24
The story was pretty good but all of the characters were pretty boring and unlikable but the worst part is that because of how the book is written in first person from the author, he tells us, literally complains that none of these ppl are characters he would choose to write as if completely giving up on trying to make them interesting and almost goading the reader into continuing to read like it's challenge and the end of the story is our prize.

An unlikely knight, this stranger with roughened hands and worn wellingtons offers Edwin hope.

Revisado: 04-03-24
Alexis Hall has such a way with writing ppl, I still don't really like Marius but the story will stay with me a while and Edwin will stay with me even longer. Adam has so easily become my new highest standard of person and I really love how Edwin thinks.
