pleasant surprise!
Revisado: 05-07-19
I wasn't sure if this would be any good, but it was really enjoyable! The tension built slowly and then paid off. I liked the phone call format and the voice acting. I'm really glad I took a chance and listened.

Historia
September. A beautiful New York editor retreats to a lonely cabin on a hill in the quiet Maine beach town of Dead River - off season - awaiting her sister and friends. Nearby, a savage human family with a taste for flesh lurks in the darkening woods, watching, waiting for the moon to rise and night to fall.

bad torture porn
Revisado: 06-16-18
This is just poorly written torture porn masquerading as a survival story. I guess if you're into listening to stories about women having their genitals and nipples cut, then you'll love this book. It's mysogynistic trash. And I'm not all that sensitive about that kind of thing. Just calling it what it is.

Historia
Dr. Siegfried Klein has vanished on a mysterious pilgrimage to an abandoned infirmary in the ghost-town of Moonville. The locals in the surrounding areas are tight-lipped, hostile to outsiders. Local legend has it that the old Sick House is packed with spirits, none of them friendly, and that to set foot in it is to enter Hell itself.

might have been a good story...
Revisado: 12-20-17
but I can't tell for sure because I spent the whole book hating the narrator. I bought the book before I realized it was the guy who sounds just like Littlefinger. Weird, affected, unplaceable, distracting accent. S and Z sounds at the end of words all become "sh". Vacillates between tonelessness and discordant attempts at inflection. I would have asked for a refund but I had the last book read by this guy refunded so I would've had to call Audible. Seemed like less trouble to just listen to it. I should've called. If you could listen to 6 hours of Petyr Baelish reading out loud, then by all means, buy this book. Otherwise, spend your credits elsewhere.

Historia
College students Kenji and Dylan stumble upon a strange recording in the background of an obscure song. It's a woman's voice uttering a string of seemingly random characters. Upon further inspection, the song appears to have been embedded with a hidden message. Attempting to crack the mysterious code and becoming obsessed with the recording, Kenji and Dylan set off in search of answers. With every turn in the road however, the puzzle only seems to grow more complicated.

Historia
From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

couldn't get into it
Revisado: 05-14-17
something about the authors refusal to use contractions made it really laborious to listen to. seemed kind of pretentious and like he was trying hard to sound pithy. also, he should have consulted a wildlife biologist. too much of his basic science was off which was distracting from the start. first book I've ever gotten refunded from audible-after a week of trying to get into it and rewinding numerous times, it just seemed like a lost cause
