Historia

Unforgettable
Revisado: 09-30-24
Arenas had a genius that defied all notions of culture, erudition & craft. Self taught, unschooled, he stands uniquely in a Latin American tradition that had no choice but to incorporate his bright light in a when it was most needed.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

A perfect novel
Revisado: 12-29-23
Dr. Verghese has secured his place in modern fiction with a most profound, moving, encompassing and entertaining story that reminded me of the best work by García Márquez or Dostoyevsky. A gem of a journey, don’t miss it!

Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

A Must on Xmas list & in libraries
Revisado: 12-10-23
I’m a left leaning independent but this book is a historical must for everyone to understand the intricacies of this most malicious, cancerous push to autocracy that coalesced in the US, after brewing many years in the shadows, & finding their orange messiah. Read this & help us purge the nation & the world of this ignorance & evil. Trump & all enablers MUST go to jail!! I congratulate & thank Ms Cheney for her intelligence, courage, determination & thoroughness. The book is fascinating, tightly written, read beautifully read. The addition of audio from different leaders Cheney quotes made for a delightful listen. Read it & gift it. We need this now!!

A must read if you work with trauma
Revisado: 06-23-23
his book is an extraordinary contribution to the fields of body psychotherapy, psychology, and trauma treatment. I have explored and trained in several somatic modalities for trauma resolution and was not entirely satisfied with the outcomes. Dr. Selvam has created a methodology that challenges current somatic therapies with vast scientific evidence and the integration of all the necessary elements for effective trauma treatment. The book offers tremendous learning and raises the bar for understanding trauma and emotional processing in a way that cannot be ignored. I think Dr. Selvam's protocol is the future of trauma treatment, especially with the work he continues to do to expand the scope of Integral Somatic Psychology. The book reflects his vast scholarly capabilities plus enormous commitment and passion for the study and resolution of trauma. It has filled the gaps and resolved the complaints I had with other modalities. I was fascinated, inspired, motivated and grateful for this book. It was so good I had to go for more, so I found Dr. Selvam's website, took his webinars and decided to start training in ISP. Dr. Selvam is an exceptional teacher. Besides his erudition & advanced consciousness, he's walked the road to healing trauma himself. This is undoubtedly a big source of his dedication and wisdom. I've seen a good number of geniuses that have the knowledge but not the ability to connect with the people they teach. Dr. Selvam is up there, but he's open, humble, caring and inspiring. In the training I was able to experience his cutting-edge modality and was truly surprised at how quick and effective it can be. If you work with clients experiencing trauma and suffering you must read this book. If you can, please do the training. It's brief, reasonable and transformative.

Historia
Quiara Alegría Hudes was the sharp-eyed girl on the stairs while her family danced their defiance in a tight North Philly kitchen. She was awed by her mother and aunts and cousins, but haunted by the unspoken, untold stories of the barrio — even as she tried to find her own voice in the sea of language around her, written and spoken, English and Spanish, bodies and books, Western art and sacred altars.

A wonderful, balanced & enjoyable memoir by one of the most fascinating American figures of our time. Beautifully written & as humane, human, smart, accessible & memorable as both Obamas. How direly we need more like them in public life, especially now!! Mrs. Obama’s reading as rich & impeccable as she’s alway been. A good book should always carry you away but also bring you closer to yourself. Thank you for such a book.
