I’ve never heard of Opus Dei, even though they were referenced in Dan Brown, the da Vinci code. However, this book was a lot of details but not a lot of things that would be shocking to a reader if you have knowledge of religious cults. The narration is what kept me listening

This audiobook is short and to the point. I finished in three days. For me, the tips I’ve heard before. But often the issue is I haven’t implemented them. I like some of the anecdotal evidence. There are plenty of examples of successful people who implemented self discipline. So if you get this audiobook and start to realize most things sound familiar you must act on what you read otherwise this will be another quick listen.

This audiobook spoke to me in so many ways. The first three chapters I’ve listened to more than once. I highly recommend this book as well as the Compound Effect and the Slight Edge.

I follow Vivian Tu on Instagram and I was happy to see her on the Forbes list of content creators. She is engaging, hilarious, and passionate about what she does. She's not for everyone - and I honestly say that because she is not for anyone who wants to buy into the myth that 'everyone has access to the same information' - which she addresses in her first chapter. Vivian also champions financial empowerment for marginalized communities, shining a light on the inequities that have left them lagging behind in economic progress. This passion for advocacy is interwoven with her engaging and sincere personality, which shines through on her popular Instagram and now, her book.

A couple of things that I like about this book - it is not a rehash of what she has on her Instagram pages. I think Chapter 2 goes into a lot more detail about things like job security, how to ask for a raise, and how to advocate for yourself.

The first chapter is my favorite. I love the rich people myths. I love how she counters some of the traditional advice given about becoming rich like 'just find a cheaper place to live, spend less on avocado toast and lattes, and just switch careers to make more money'. I agree with her that some financial advice is really tone deaf.

Some of my favorite quotes:

"Budgets aren't about slapping your hand out of the cookie jar, they're more like the recipe that allows you to have the biggest, fullest, most delicious jar of cookies that you can enjoy for the rest of your life." (Chapter 3: I am in Charge of my Money). Chapter 3 is where I put a lot of things into practice. She focuses more on your mindset around your budget.

The preceding chapters are very useful in understanding things like savings, 401(k), how to maximize your savings.

Who this book is for depends on where you are in your financial journey. For me, I had some 'ah-hah' moments. Then there were things that I didn't know. However, there is a strategy with each chapter, and I'm taking notes. More importantly, the book helped me change my mindset about money - the most important thing. I would say this is a great book anyone who wants to make their money work for them.

In addition, the audible version contains a downloadable PDF with key terms. This was very helpful to me.

I love Dana Robinson. I actually came across his videos a while back and was excited to hear that he wrote a book. I think the benefit of this book is he lays out a strategy with resources. I think the only downside is he clearly benefits from having a great network of people, and some of his tips won’t work for everyone. But his honesty and strategic approach is beneficial.

This audiobook is only 6 hours so I finished listening to it in a day.

Quick read, if you’re big on self-help a lot of the information is stuff you’ve heard before. Not sure what’s up with the authors website but I wish I could get access to the end of chapter worksheets.

I love Julian Edelman. He along with Randy Moss and Tom Brady are my favorite athletes to watch (when they played). There was a lot that I knew about him before reading this book. I knew he grew up in the same neighborhood as Tom Brady and that he had a close relationship with his father. The book highlights his growing up and how his father Frank modeled him to be the relentless hardworking man he is today. However, munch of the book is rehashing play-by-play of certain games and if you’re not into that it will be a slow read.

I know that he has broken every bone in his body. I didn’t know that he dated Jerry Rice’s daughter. Edelman doesn’t dig into his personal life and we’re not owed that. But the Epilogue and the first few chapters are the best. The narrator is good and the pace is great. It’s just not a memoir or a real bio. Lots of takeaways from him. It made me respect him as an athlete, father, and as a person. Hopefully he will follow up with another book.
