Historia
For fans of The Martian, an extraordinary new thriller of the future from number one New York Times - best-selling and Pulitzer Priz - winning author John Sandford and internationally known photo-artist and science fiction aficionado Ctein. By who?
Revisado: 01-11-25
I never read Si Fi, but thought it was the other John Sanford, who I read all the time, but got hooked. As he explains in the Epilogue the made up science sounds so logical and is explained so well if folds into the human action as if it was a character. By the (abrupt) ending I was grateful for the ride.

Historia
An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

Just another typical Sandford great!!! novel. RIP Richard Ferrone. Sandford and Ferrone were the perfect pairing and it will be tough to find another narrator as good.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

The script reads like a screenplay, which I expect it is already . The volcanology is fascinating and the The only part not predictable. All the human interactions are obvious about two lines into the scene. Scott Brick is outstanding, as usual.

Historia
Clete Purcel—private investigator, ex-member of the New Orleans Police Department, and war veteran with a hard shell and just a few soft spots—is Dave Robicheaux’s longtime friend and partner in detective work. But he has a troubled past. When Clete leaves his car at the local car wash, only to return to find it ransacked by a group of thugs tied to the drug trade from Mexican cartels to Louisiana, it feels personal—his grandniece died of a fentanyl overdose, and his fists curl when he thinks of the dealers who sold it.

"Cleat" was a favorite character of mine through nearly all of Burke's book.
Revisado: 06-27-24
It's good to get the quality of Burke's writing without all the conversations with dead civil war soldiers and the overbearing Catholicism. Clete is different, to me at least, than he was in the earlier books. He just seems like Dave in a pork-pie hat.

The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on - and there’s only one man who can find her... Brilliant CIA analyst Jack Ryan has little interest in fieldwork, but when covert photographs of Red October land on his desk, Ryan soon finds himself in the middle of a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek played by two world powers - a game that could end in all-out war.

Tales from long ago.
Revisado: 04-07-24
I had read the first book and seen the movie and was surprised at how dated it was. It was a different world back then when nuclear war was the only concern and the country's leaders were at least on the same page and not criminals. I was disappointed that Ryan, a fellow Marine, was such a wuss. I know that the author researched the novel in the Annapolis library but the submarine details seemed more like a submarine primer than the base of an action adventure novel.

As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes.

Same ol' Sharpe, as good as ever.
Revisado: 12-05-23
I've listened to every title by Bernard Cornwell in Audible, other than the Saxon stories. which is too far back for me. The 17th and 18th centuries are plenty. The stories often have similar storylines but are always entertaining. This one had a bit more military detail, which is fine with me. His wife is in this one, but while I remembered he was married, I thought she was tending the home fires in Normandy. I guess that, and their daughter comes later. Thank you, Mr. Cornwell, for your knowledge and research.
I noticed that we are the same age, so I hope we can look forward to you writing and me reading (listening) for another 21 years.

Historia
Packed with new reporting, Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party tracks Trump’s improbable journey from disgraced and defeated former president to the dominant force, yet again, in the Republican Party. From his exile in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump has become more extreme, vengeful, and divorced from reality than he was on January 6, 2021. His meddling damaged the GOP’s electoral prospects and his legal troubles were mounting. Yet he re-emerged as the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and the president-elect.

No headlines but lots of new details.
Revisado: 11-19-23
Having read a couple of his other books I had no doubt where this book was going, but a lot of new details were added. Mr Karl's experience and backward glances add a lot, (that's why I watch him every Sunday AM.) The conclusion was beautifully done. I hope every MAGA reads it, but if they are dumb enough to wear that stupid hat they will just chew the cover off the book to lick the glue. The MAGAs will never fully appreciate the damage they and their ignorant, criminal, draft dodging, leader have done to the country. There will be a special place in hell for Mr. Trump.

Historia
Annie Proulx's masterful language and fierce love of Wyoming are evident in this collection of stories about loneliness, quick violence, and wrong kinds of love. In "The Mud Below", a rodeo rider's obsession marks the deepening fissures between his family life and self-imposed isolation. In "The Half-Skinned Steer", an elderly fool drives west to the ranch he grew up on for his brother's funeral, and dies a mile from home.
