Wow! Read this!
Revisado: 10-03-17
I read a lot. Usually I have a book on my ipod, a book on my Kindle, and another book on a different ipod when my husband and I listen in the car. I found this book to be excellent, both interesting and inventive. The narrator is perfect! Read this book!

Keep your hand on the volume control!
Revisado: 07-27-17
What disappointed you about Waking Gods?
The narration was horrible! The voices varied in decibels so I had to keep one hand on the volume controls. The actual voices were great!
What did you like best about this story?
The actual story is well written, with good character development.
Would you be willing to try another one of full cast’s performances?
Not unless the volume/decibel issue is resolved.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story is excellent and very gripping.
Any additional comments?
I want to read the next installment! Please fix the volume issues!!!

Historia
Thomas De Quincey, infamous for his memoir "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater", is the major suspect in a series of ferocious mass murders identical to ones that terrorized London 43 years earlier. The blueprint for the killings seems to be De Quincey's essay "On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts". Desperate to clear his name but crippled by opium addiction, De Quincey is aided by his devoted daughter, Emily, and a pair of determined Scotland Yard detectives.

Beautifully written, historically accurate
Revisado: 02-17-17
Would you listen to Murder as a Fine Art again? Why?
The writing was excellent
What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder as a Fine Art?
Learning about Thomas De Quincey.
What does Matthew Wolf bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accents and change of voice by character was well performed.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I normally listen to books only in the car, but I took this book in to the house and listened.
Any additional comments?
I was not expecting the quality of writing in this mystery. The book focuses on a fictional tale of Thomas De Quincey (the author of Confessions of an English Opium Eater) and his daughter working with the police on murders that copy previous murders from 43 years before. The book is clearly historically accurate with regard to the setting (England in the mid 1800s), language, people, and customs. The detail regarding De Quincey is astonishing and quite interesting. the reader was perfect.

Great if you are an engineer...
Revisado: 02-08-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The initial chapter was good, but then it deteriorated into engineering/physics babble. It put me to sleep. Wish I hadn't spent the money. If there is a good story in there, I didn't find it after listening to it for a hour. Wish the initial chapter had continued.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jack L. Knapp again?
probably not.
What does Tom Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is a okay narrator, but it was hard to distinguish who was talking.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Sleep, which isn't good if you are driving.

What made the experience of listening to The Last Tribe the most enjoyable?
Scott brick is a great narrator.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He adds suspense.
Any additional comments?
I usually listen to books when I am driving and rarely bring them inside the house. I started this book, and quickly brought it in. Listened constantly until it was finished. The first part got a little slow, but the rest of the book was very interesting.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Perfect for a 12-17 year old boy
Revisado: 12-27-15
Would you try another book from Ernest Cline and/or Wil Wheaton?
I really like Wil Wheaton as a narrator, so I chose this book - I am a 65 year old female. After a few moments, I realized this was not the book for me, although I did listen to the whole book. This is perfect for a teen aged boy. The writing isn't actually bad, just shallow, like many books written for teen boys - all action, a bit of touch on feelings and "a girl".
Has Armada turned you off from other books in this genre?
I like Sci-fi, that is not the issue.
What about Wil Wheaton’s performance did you like?
He has excellent reading skills.
Was Armada worth the listening time?
Debatable.

Overly dramatic reader.
Revisado: 04-23-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story is pretty typical Val McDermid, although some of the writing is not up to his usual ability. However the reader makes it worse. EVERY line is read as if it is the most important line in the book - way overly dramatic. Skip this one if you value your mind and ears.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Typical
What didn’t you like about Guerin Barry’s performance?
See above
Do you think The Last Temptation needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I am no longer going to follow this series. The writing gets worse with each book.

You have got to be kidding!
Revisado: 07-14-05
This book takes place in the 1950s. That didn't bother me, as I am of that generation. I even assumed it had been written in the early 1960s. The attitudes and ridiculously simplewriting style are clearly of that era. I could not believe it was actually written in 2000. Has the author been living in a cave since then? It was so simple minded that it was actually amusing. The plot is very weak, and the characters are unbelievable - even for that time period. The romance, so to speak, is passionless and trite. Save your time and money.
