Historia
By all appearances, Frank and Maggie share a happy, loving marriage. But for the past six months, they have not spoken. Not a sentence, not a single word. Maggie isn’t sure what, exactly, provoked Frank’s silence, though she has a few ideas. Day after day, they have eaten meals together and slept in the same bed in an increasingly uncomfortable silence that has become, for Maggie, deafening.

The wife's character lacks integrity, IMO. I am not drawn to the story. I feel no connection to what happens to them.

Historia
Lionel Bigman is dead. Murdered by a robot. Guy Matthias, the philandering founder and CEO of the mega-corporation Beetle, insists it was human error. But was it? Either the predictive algorithms of Beetle's supposedly omniscient "lifechain" don't work, or, they've been hacked. Both scenarios are impossible to imagine and signal the end of Beetle's technotopia and life as we know it.

Very Enjoyable Listen, Story Runs out of Gas
Revisado: 05-03-20
There is a lot to like here. The pacing and absurdity are reminiscent of Catch-22, which is my all time favorite book. This was made all the more enjoyable by the narrator, who's British accent adds to the silliness. The author has some marvelous takes on a world where an Amazon or Google becomes all consuming. I did not find the book strong on plot and found myself a bit bored by the end. If there was a climax to the story, I missed it. There was also a plot point surrounding golden beetles turning up everywhere that was never quite explained. There were also plot points around the manipulation of language and conviction of future crimes that were so close to elements of 1984 and Minority Report that the author should have given a passing attribution in the narrative.

Revisado: 01-11-18

What about Professor Michael E. Wysession’s performance did you like?
Did not get bogged down in physics of the topic.

Historia
In the first of three essays included in this audiobook, Bill Bryson decides to move his wife and kids back to his homeland, the United States, after nearly two decades in Britain. But not before taking one last trip around Britain, a sort of valedictory tour of the green and kindly island that had so long been his home. The result is a hilarious social commentary.

Always look for Bill Bryson Narration
Revisado: 05-22-16
Would you listen to Bill Bryson Collector's Edition again? Why?
Yes. I would certainly do so before visiting one of the locations.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bill Bryson Collector's Edition?
"Let's Go! Get another travel guide"
What about Bill Bryson’s performance did you like?
I always enjoy it when Bill Bryson narrates his owe work. I think this is because he writes with an American voice, but his actual voice is somewhere between a British and an American accent. Consequently, the interpretation completely changes when someone else reads it.
Any additional comments?
Audible should not sell Bill Bryson books without his narration.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Very Compelling.
Revisado: 11-05-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I enjoyed Seabiscuit tremendously. This book is also very compelling. My only complaint is that Ms. Hillenbrand occasionally is a bit too hyperbolic in her descriptions. At one point she describes Louis' captures forcing 200 other prisoners to line up and punch Louis in the face as hard as they could. If this actually happened, Louis would have died from the beating.
If you’ve listened to books by Laura Hillenbrand before, how does this one compare?
Seabiscuit was 5 star.
Did Edward Herrmann do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
The narrative was very easy to follow. Enjoyed him as a reader.
Do you think Unbroken needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No.

Historia
The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.
Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

Disappointed in my First Mary Roach Book
Revisado: 11-05-12
What disappointed you about Bonk?
This was my first Mary Roach book. I've seen her interviewed and really thought I would enjoy her work. I choose this book because I thought it would be the most provocative of her subjects. Unfortunately, as vast and as strange as human sexuality is, I found her choices of topic to be rather uninteresting.More troubling was the reader. This is supposed to be a humorous book. I would have much rather heard the author read it, as the Sandar Burr has no sense of comic delivery.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something fictional.
Would you be willing to try another one of Sandra Burr’s performances?
No
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Would be better with another Narrator.
Revisado: 09-22-12
What did you like best about God Is Not Great? What did you like least?
this is a very well written book with very compelling arguments.
Christopher Hitchens tends to swallow the words at the end of a sentence. It may be simply not being used to is accent. He writes very complex sentences and is making a lot of logical arguments. It would be nice if he paused a bit to allow you to comprehend a premise before jumping into a conclusion.
Would you be willing to try another one of Christopher Hitchens’s performances?
No
Do you think God Is Not Great needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, because he dead.
