Historia
After a humiliating end to her engagement, investment banker Sidney Sinclair is done with commitment-phobic men. But when her sister winds up engaged after a whirlwind courtship, Sidney is thrown into close contact with exactly the kind of sexy playboy she wants to avoid - the gorgeous best man. She's stuck with him, for better or worse, until her sister walks down the aisle, but that doesn't mean she has to give in to his smooth advances, no matter how tempting they are.... Special agent Vaughn Roberts always gets his man on the job and his woman in bed.

My favorite so far!

So well written with natural dialogue and excellent pacing. I’ve read several books by Julie James and this is my favorite so far. The ending left me smiling.

Reading about people in financial straits with few options and little hope of improving their situation is not a trope that I enjoy. Excellent narration.

Historia
Melissa North had assumed that after eight years of not setting eyes on each other, her youthful attraction to - or an infatuation with - Julian Delamere, once Viscount Dagenham and now earl of Carsely, would have faded to nothing and gasped its last. Unfortunately, during the intervening years, she has failed to find any suitable suitor who measures up to her mark, and she is resigned to ending her days an old maid. Then she sees Julian across a crowded ballroom, and he sees her, and the intensity of their connection shocks her.

Like two books in one…..
Revisado: 03-22-22
I initially thought I was going to wish that Melissa and Julian had met again sooner, rather than 8 years after their last meeting in the previous books in this series. But Melissa had the opportunity to grow into an interesting woman, instead of being fresh out of the schoolroom. So brava to Laurens for making this choice.
It almost felt like I was listening to two books in one. The first half of the book is about their romance and they get married. The second half of the book is about the mystery of who is trying to kill Julian. The mystery portion of the book has a similar feel as the previous Lady Obaldestone books.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye. When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear of him. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me. But I didn’t.

Too repetitive!
Revisado: 03-04-22
Believe the other tepid reviews about this book! I almost didn’t finish it. It was soooooo repetitive for the first 20’ish chapters. Then Sailor and Hayes get to the resort to attend the wedding and it gets a tiny bit more interesting. Sailor’s extensive inner monologuing is tedious, repetitive and boring, so I skipped the boring chapters and started listening to just Hayes’ chapters. The storyline finally picks up around chapter 32, when they find out what the press has been saying about them while they’ve had their phones turned off at the resort.
I thought the author missed the opportunity to make the book more interesting by describing more about the resort. Sailor and Hayes go to swim with sea turtles and there’s no description of the outing! They take a boat there, and then they take the boat back. Boo! I would have liked details about the turtles, the snorkeling and the experience.
And yes, 4 stars for the narration of the usually perfect Andi and Sebastian. I had to speed up the audio. It made me wonder if the producer intentionally slowed it down to make the book seem longer? No wonder it drags.

Fun and upbeat!
Revisado: 01-21-22
This book has a vibe similar to The Devil Wears Prada, focussing on Sophie’s career with the romance taking a backseat. Awesome relationship development and story telling, with many fun side characters as we meet Sophie’s family, friends and clients. Excellent narration!

Historia
Lord Farnsworth would rather rot in debtor’s prison than sell the one place that feels like home to him - his mother’s manor. That is, until he meets the woman who wants to buy it. Sally Duncan is beautiful, intelligent, and as rich as a baron. All he needs to do is sell her his beloved manor and then charm her to the altar, and the manor will be his again. Simple, right? But nothing is simple when Sally starts tearing apart his ancestral home and renovating it in a way no one would consider tasteful.

Probably worth buying on sale, but not worth a credit. The characters are nice. The story is nice. The heroine and her sister learning to box held no appeal for me, and that was a major element in the story. A meaningful conversation between the hero and heroine would have prevented them from misunderstanding each other. Overall a shallow story. Narration is fine.

Revisado: 11-06-21
Owen and his son are charming and funny, but Frankie’s cynicism is over-the-top, annoying and unpleasant. Parts of the book are snort-laugh funny, but other parts are trying way too hard and became tiresome. I gave up at chapter 22 because I never cared if these two characters got together. Frankie was just too unappealing for me to invest any more time in her HEA. Narration is excellent.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Excellent story with humor and intelligently written. Wonderful characters left me wanting more - the kind of characters who people write fan fiction about to keep their stories going. Outstanding narration.

Historia
Robert Rothmore, Earl of Rockford, thinks Alissa Henning is simply delightful-exactly the kind of woman who'd make the perfect mother for his sons. But Alissa swore she'd spend the rest of her life scraping pennies together rather than wed the insufferable earl and become a glorified governess. Still, she couldn't very well let her own children starve - and there was no doubt that Rockford would give them all a good life. So, she reluctantly accepts his offer...but there's more to a good life than what's in one's pockets.

Best book I’ve read recently
Revisado: 06-12-21
You know how you keep hoping the next book you read will be the one that makes you laugh while making your heart feel all the feels? This humorous farce was it for me. Maybe I’ve read too many disappointing books recently, so my standards were lower, but probably not. The writing is witty with dry, subtle humor and the narration perfectly captures and conveys all of the characters’ emotions with varying voices and accents. All around excellent!
