Historia
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now. Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .

Humorous, thrilling, and surprisingly sweet
Revisado: 01-31-25
I liked the mix of straight forward Amy, flamboyant Rosie, and reluctant Steve. This book is like taking a whirlwind exotic vacation with a bunch of wacky friends. You’re never quite sure where things will go next, you know there will be trouble, but you know it will be worth writing home about! The mystery is fun and fresh. The friendships that grow along the way are tender. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Historia
Meet Jessica Jones: retired superhero, private investigator, loner. She tried her best to be a shiny spandex crimefighter, but that life only led to unspeakable trauma. Now she avoids that world altogether and works on surviving day-to-day in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. The morning a distraught mother comes into her office, Jessica would prefer to nurse her hangover and try to forget last night’s poor choices. But something about Amber Randall’s story strikes a chord with her. Amber is adamant that something happened to her teenage twins while they were visiting their father in the UK.

Interesting
Revisado: 12-29-24
I flew through this book. I like the Jessica Jones tv series. I have also enjoyed several Lisa Jewel books. I’m not a die hard fan of either, though. I enjoyed the inner battle of a woman trying to find a balance between who she is and what she wants to be.

Historia
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Flop
Revisado: 12-24-24
I love all the other Joy Ellis books, but this one is a FLOP for me. I don’t like the narrator. I don’t like Matt Ballard. He seems to have no admirable qualities. I don’t like the relationship between Matt and Liz. I don’t like all the sex scenes. I don’t like the killer. I made it half way through chapter eleven and I am DONE. I will return this book. No thank you!

Historia
The year 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Just ok
Revisado: 04-13-24
I liked other books by Dean Koontz, but this one is just mediocre. It felt really long and slow. I never felt that invested in the characters and the plot was a little predictable. I won’t continue with this series.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Revisado: 10-25-23
A very enjoyable story of witches, but really about heartache and finding yourself and where you feel whole. There are lots of silly moments and peculiar characters to round out the story and romance, of course.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Loved it! The strength of women
Revisado: 10-04-23
I loved this book! I love the friendships, the characters, the plot lines and twists, and the strength of the women as they come together.
“Patricia felt something stronger than her fear: solidarity.” I laughed out loud so many times. It was wonderful fun!
