These Never Disapoint

I have listened to every Harry Starke book starting with number 1. They are all good. Maybe some day the author will run out of new ideas and the series will get stale, but it sure hasn’t happened yet.
The narrator has been the same since #1 and I can’t imagine anyone better at being Harry at this point. Looking forward to the next one.

Nice twist at the end!

Milo goes from following spouses to living high and solving a really interesting murder. An every man kind of PI with keen insight.

Will be looking forward to the next in the series.

I thought the narrator delivered this with exactly the right tine for the character.

Another winner by Jack Knapp

I really enjoyed Jack Knapp's Darwin's World series so when I saw this I had to try it.

This is just as good, maybe better. They do need to fix the audio in the beginning of Chapter 24 where a few sentences are repeated. Other than that however the production is fine.

Tighter and faster moving than the first two. Both the author and the narrator seem to be getting better with each new title.. Looking forward to #4.

Unique in many ways

Usually any book with time travel as the basis for the entire plot is more than enough to get my interest. Here add in everything you ever wanted to know about stone age man, a little sex, some big fight scenes with extinct predators, and a study in building a working society from scratch. What's not to like?

My only complaint might be it is almost too educational in some ways. I really didn't need to know all that much about making a fire.

Loved the narration. There were dozens of characters coming and going through the three books contained in this set yet I always knew who was talking.

Hooked on Harry

Would you listen to The Harry Starke Series: Books 4-6 again? Why?

Probably, I will certainly listen to more in the series. just downloaded the 7 - 9 books.

The formula works! While the plots vary all over the map (and all are clever)we now know exactly how Harry and crew will respond to all issues.

The narrator is Harry to me now. I can't imagine anyone else in the role at this point. All of Harry's charm and wit come through loud and clear.

What other book might you compare The Harry Starke Series: Books 4-6 to and why?

All the Harry Starke books.

What does Tom Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He tells the story in a completely beliveable way.

Great Opening Chapter

Yes, if they are at all interested in Sci-Fi this seems like anew series worth following.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Morty - Had the most personality.

Which character – as performed by Tom Lennon – was your favorite?

Morty again. Seems like the others are almost bland at times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The crash (spoiler alert)

Any additional comments?

Moves a little slow. Makes you want to get onto book 2 where hopefully there is a quicker pace and more action. This is really almost an introduction to the series, not a standalone novel.

If I didn't need something to listen to on a long car trip I would have turned it off. Dull with cardboard characters. Entire premise is ridiculous.

Good old fashioned Detective Mystery!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if they are at all a fan of classic detective fiction - think Mike Hammer, Sam Spade, etc. they will love Damien. If they are looking for today's supernatural, Vampire infested, romance mysteries, then it probably won't be their cup of tea.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It was somewhat predictable so I can't say edge of seat. More like visiting an old friend and thoroughly enjoying the visit. There was suspense, just not what you would call a thriller. Lots of detecting needed to figure out the plot completely. It is definitely a feel good book, not one to lose sleep thinking about. I see Damien in my minds eye as a 40 year old John Goodman playing detective. Got to love the guy.

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably the plane trip.

Any additional comments?

I thought the narrator did a good of of delivering the kind of dead pan delivery the character needed. May sound a little like 50's TV detective, but that just adds to the fun of the entire book. I will be looking forward to more in this series.
