Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Beyond magnificent, sweeping and beautiful

I felt immersed in the lives of this marvelous Indian family . The author’s diction and accents brought an immediacy to the story. I felt involved in the family’s lives. Such a magnificent story of Indian society, so well written and srticulated. . A privilege to listen to !

Historical masterpiece
Revisado: 12-02-23
Mitchener makes easy reading of 500 years of Caribbean history, sweeping through generations of both heroic and mistreated people who have struggled to survive and prosper there . I now have a deeper respect for the Caribbean Islands

Why I loved this book
Revisado: 02-09-23
I am a history buff, but this was a slice of life that I knew nothing about. Russia and Eastern Europe before and after the Russian Revolution from the point of view of the aristocracy. A very very long book but I found it compelling…… and based on a true character !
